Pitkanen is alright. I don't know if he was worth losing Smith and Lupul, but he's alright. The thing is this: they didn't get any of the "stars," but the truth is that almost every single big name signed for way more money than they are likely worth. Odds are Philly or the Rangers will be trying to unload one of their newly acquired stars in a matter of a year or two when they realize that they have no money left. In the short term, the Oilers didn't do squat. In the long time, they may be glad they didn't!

Not every team can sign big players. For some reason, I've heard analysts say Edmonton wasn't an attractive place to play. I'm surprised to hear this because of its history, and since it's a Canadian city.
