I certainly thought the attack on the airport at Glasgow over the weekend was a bit pathetic and amateur. Considering the skill and intelligence the terror cell had to produce such a dangerous explosion they just seemed to have not quite planned their operation as well as they might have.

1) The attackers never injured anyone except themselves.
2) They got caught straight away and were never going to get away.
3) The choice of target and timing was poor. They targeted a doorway entrance and had very little chance of causing much casualties.

The result was a lucky escape of course for the public and we should be thankful for their incompetence.

In the local shopping centre, metal posts have been cemented into the ground in front of the entrances to shops to, presumably , stop Ram-raiders.
Why not install them in front of airports and other places at risk from this method of inflicting harm,

The reason why the recent attacks seem amateur is because the British government has made it very hard to buy the compounds to make bombs , such as hydrogen peroxide , and certain fertilisers - so these idiots have to resort to exploding gas canisters , petrol mixed with a few nails for good measure . And because these primitive devises are just that "primitive" , they are not an exact science and things will go wrong ( it ain't as easy as pressing a detonator ) . The best thing is these people are supposed to be intelligent and yet they still failed miserably . They just don't get it do they - terrorism will never beat us - NEVER - the IRA could actually make bombs that worked and were far more prolific , but they never beat the GREAT BRITISH PUBLIC , and in a strange way we owe them , because of the IRA , our police are more than prepared for these half ar*SED attempts

OK - the attack itself was pretty amateur - but it certainly got the attention of the media and since it closed the airport for a while, it made life difficult for people. Remember the IRA? they made hundreds of hoax bomb threats for every live bomb just to create confusion and panic and tie up the police etc.
These attackers didn't care if they were caught, they planned to die in the attack.
OK - so they may have not made the best choice this time, but I'm sure someone is planning the next one to be bigger and better.

Ever wonder what do we expect from the new streets kids on the block to be doing when they were not the pro?
They just learn and watch it from Tv and movies.
Ever wonder how they cannot make a run for it after they set it off?
In the movie.
The actor can get away with it and go back and work the next day.
With the street kids.
We have to pick up the bits and pieces in making a mess out there.

That's why I don't think they're a true al Qaeda cell, just sympathisers.
Let's face it, al Qaeda's bombs work. If this had been a proper al Qaeda operation, there would be at least a hundred dead at each location, completely dead terrorists and not much in the way of obvious evidence because it would be vaporised in the explosion.

Ask any squaddie who's just come back from Basra about al Qaeda designed IED's, they'll confirm that.

Yes but they WILL get weapons into the UK eventually

Remember there are 1.6 million Muslims in the UK. If ONLY 2% are terrorists that means 32,000 dangerous people.
(2% of 1.6 million = 32,000)Many even most of the others may be decent people

I think moving people with old traditions like Islam around the world in millions is a gigantic mistake. ( no disrespect to Muslims intended they believe they are fighting for Islam after all)

The story is unfolding along these lines....The police were on their trail after they botched the london attempted attacks and in desperation they packed their jeep with what they had left and rammed the nearest place they could think off - the airport. Al Qaeda were no match for MI5 this time.

Yes, it was poorly done.

But remember that this 'organisation' is not like those you are used to dealing with. They've no true top-down command structure, so 'cells' may often act on their own. And said cells may not even be part of the group, just sympathisers - and, in this case, apparently ill-trained ones.

Edit: David, the RA knew what they were doing - these fools did not!

I very rarely get annoyed but WTF are you on about 'Amateur'?Even though they failed in their mission, they knew what they were doing. There really is nothing 'amateur' about it. Just a fault in setting it off by mobile phone signal (thank goodness!) The bastard was photographed on fire being hosed down with water and still opening the boot and taking out a gas bottle. Amateur
With gas cannisters in the back?? On Fire and in pain but can still get the keys and open the boot????? By some luck, they didn't go off and I hope that bastard who was burnt suffers and then he will realise what he was willing to put other people through.
Then again, he probably doesn't give a sh*t so. . . . .

Thats because it was. I will be very surprised if there was any real planning behind this. I think it was either the 2 drivers getting religious fervour, or someone threw them away to create a red herring for something REALLY nasty being planned.
