Oil consumption should be nil, nada, zero! If you are using oil, there may be several reasons why. One is that you are using a cheap oil and it has a loss of viscosity in a short time, you may have (or someone else) put too much oil in, This will cause damage to the seals and is just as bad as not having enough oil in the engine. If the car has unusually high mileage, then it could be wear and it could be from a combination of 1 or more of the above stated reasons.
The other condition may be a loss due to a bad valve cover gasket.
Bring it in to a reputable mechanic and have them look at the car. Preferably NOT the one who changes your oil. Good Luck, Rick

My 1995 Pontiac Grand Am 3.1 uses no oil between oil changes. Has about 145,000 miles on it.

So I feel it depends on how the car was maintained in the past. If the car gets regular oil and filter changes every 3000 miles and is driven reasonably, it can go a very long time before it starts using oil.

This can vary a lot. I had a new chevy van in 1976 that used a quart of oil in 900 miles. I now have an 8 year old Honda Accord that doesnt use any.

It is difficult to put a figure on the oil consumption of an engine because there are a fair amount of deciding factors, like how many miles has it done, has it had a hard life.do you drive regularly on motorways.but after 4 yrs the oil consumption should be next to nothing. Maclaren

it will vary. if it uses more than 1 quart per every 3,000 miles then it should be looked at to determine if it is leaking it or burning it. It's not uncommon for engines to burn a little oil as they get worn and as long as it's not excessive and there is no blue smoke coming from the tail pipe I wouldn't be very concerned
