x = cost of soft drink
9x - $0.20 = cost of pizza

The total cost of 2 pizzas and 6 soft drinks follows:
2(9x - $0.20) + 6x
18x - $0.40 + 6x
24x - $0.40

Answer: 24x - $0.40 is the most simplified total cost of the two pizzas and six soft drinks.

You're just being asked to make substitutions.

If a soft drink costs X cents, then a pizza costs 9x - 20.

The cost of 2 pizzas and 6 soft drinks would be 2(9x-20) + 6x.

In simplest form, 18x-40+6x => 24x-40 cents.

Let x be the cost of a soft-drink
Let y be the cost of pizza

translation tip:
" 9 times the cost of a soft drink" means
9 * (cost of 1 soft drink) = 9 * (x) = 9x

(the cost of pizza) (is 20 cents less than) (9 times the cost of a soft drink) mean
(x) (is 20 cents less than) (9x)
x = 9x - 20

"cost of 2 pizzas and six soft drinks" =
= cost of 2 pizza + cost of six soft drinks
= (cost of 1 pizza) * 2 + (cost of 1 soft drink) * 6
= (9x - 20) * 2 + (x) * 6
= 18x - 40 + 6x
= 24 x - 40

ans = 24 x - 40

Let x be the cost of a soft drink. Pizza is x - 20 cents.

Total cost T of 2 pizzas and 6 soft drinks will be

T = 6x + 2(x - 20) = 6x + 2x - 40 = 8x - 40 cents

T = 8x - 40 = 8(x - 5)

T = 8 (x - 5) is a simple form for T

the cost of a soft drink is x.
the cost of pizza is 20 cents less than 9 times the cost of a soft drink, which can be represented by 9x - 20.

2 pizzas is therefore 18x - 40, and six soft drinks is 6x. Adding them together we get a total of 24x - 40.

From the question, we can get the following equation:

P = -0.2 + 9x

Now, we want to know what 2 pizzas and 6 soft drinks will cost in terms of x.

2P + 6x = C

Plug in the 1st equation for P, and we get:

2(-0.2 + 9x) + 6x = C

C = -0.4 + 18x + 6x

C = -0.4 + 24x

(C is in dollars)

p = 9x - 20 ......... p is cost of pizza, x is cost of drink.

So 2 pizzas and 6 drinks =
2p + 6x =
2(9x - 20) + 6x =
18x - 40 + 6x =
24x - 40

p = 9x - .2
C = 2p + 6x = 2(9x - .2) + 6x = 18x - .4 + 6x = 24x + $.40

p = 9s - 20

x = s

p = 9x - 20

2p = 18x - 40

6x = 6x

2p + 6x = 18x + 6x - 40

24x - 40

8(3x-5)

2p = 18x - 40
6x = 6x
2p + 6x = 18x + 6x - 40
24x - 40
