They have set up 100s of converting stations which will charge Iranians only $50 to have their car engines converted over to run off of natural gas.

true, and they are helping my country do the same thing, leaving more oil for the international markets.

Iran is already oil independent. This is a direct consequence of having one of the top ten largest oil reserves in the world and has nothing to do with natural gas cars.

Well, being a firefighter, natural gas run cars (with todays technology) is one of the most dangerous machines around. Any type of car fire in those is damn near IMPOSSIBLE to put out, as well as the very real potential of explosions. (And no, contrary to what you see in the movies, gasoline does not explode, it burns. The only thing in a car that explodes are the airbags, the tires, and the air pressure in the bumpers). So I would look elsewhere for a mobile energy source. Hydrogen power looks promising, so long as we can harness it safely. But of course, nobody thinks like that. They're too busy worrying about saving the planet RIGHT NOW, and saving the oil to give a damn about other people. Things take time, and a well developed plan. Until that day comes, we make due with what we have.

Nuclear power is a great source for an overall power, too. But we're too damn afraid of it to use it for any good.

I suspect it has much to do with the relationship between the supply of energy and the demand.

Iran is second in the world in natural gas reserves and third in oil reserves. Iran has a much smaller population (just over 70 million) than the US (over 300 million).

That is not true. Iran, like the U.S., is decades away from converting to natural gas. Secondly, Iran does not produce automobiles. There is not one car company that mass produces a natural gas car. Natural gas conversion would cost substantially more than $50 per auto. Where are you getting this mis information?

Because you won't let us drill in Alaska. Alaska is cold set apart from the main house nobody really lives there. Its the frig in the garage where you keep the beer and frozen pizza, I say its time we go out and get some supplies for the game.

America could and should be independent and it could happen real soon if we let the oil companies pump oil and refine it. Environmentalists have been much of our problem in the past. We also have the ability to reduce our need.

They are also a lot smaller than the United States, with a smaller population, and have less dependency on oil as it is because of fewer areas of need (such as automobiles).

That's like saying "Well...if Rhode Island can power the entire state off of two nuclear power plants, why can't Texas?"

our politicians make too much money from the oil companies to put this country on the right track. Just as they use payoffs from corporations for the cheap illegal labor pools they use the payoffs from big oil to fund their lifestyles. We need to throw out every current member of congress and the replacements should be a new crop not the same old crooks coming back for a rerun after losing the last election.
