Not any more it isn't. Most medical school skeletons came from India. Now it is against the law to traffic in human bones. They can be used for many things, decoration, carved into beads for Buddhist rosaries, paperweights, I even once saw a cane with a head made from a human femur. I know that skulls are popular with Voodoo witchdoctors but I am uncertain as to what use they are put.

Dearest faltov1234,
It is not legal to buy and sell human bones any more and you are supposed to turn them over to the authorities if you do have them.
I believe the turn in the market of human remains began in the 1990s. A man had found a skull in the forest near his home and took it home with him. He didn't call the authorities and used the skull as a decoration in his home for 6 years. (I don't know why he didn't call the police after finding the skull, they don't just appear out of nowhere).
Well, cold case investigators re-opened the case of two missing boys and after seeing the footage on the television he called to report he had found a skull 6 years earlier about the time the boys went missing. The man lead them to where he originally found the skull and it was about thirty or forty feet away where the uncovered the rest of the remains of both boys.
This was featured on the Discovery Channel on one of their investigator programs. Now, it is illegal to buy and sell bones because what you might own may be part of a human who was a victim of a crime.
Human bones were used in rituals performed for MANY different religious and magic-based ceremonies. The bones are believed to contain magic powers of mystic connection and ethereal binding between the heavens and earth. Especially the bones of ancestors. There are too many purposes in rituals to list them all here but human sacrifice and the use of human bones in ceremony is a thousands of years old tradition.

I do not think that it is legal to buy human bones or skulls of any kind anymore. I know that the occult will use them in their ceremonies. These are witches of the dark side that does this though. I knew someone who was in the dark arts and she told me about the special ceremonies they have using these bone. Mostly used at the Soltice times.
I had a good friend who was adopted into a practicing dark arts occult. I met her adoptive family and I ignored them as if I were to speak to them I would have gotten myself in trouble or her for sure. They would try their crap on her while I was there and I would always step right into the middle of who ever was trying something. It was mostly her adoptive mom that would try this and she got very frustrated with me but I didn't care what she thought of me. That whole family was evil and yes they really do use the bones of the dead. She told me things that I would never write about here.
I started watching a brother and a sister and the brother was 4 and his sister was 3. They had been taken from their mother as she was trying to get rid of the children anyway she could. By giving them away or selling them. Then one day both of the kids started telling me what their mom and her boyfriend were doing to the female and then they asked me what a big round circle was with a big star in the middle meant and why did their friends come over and put on long robes with big hoods on their heads. I knew right then I had gotten 2 children who were raised in a Satanic Cult, the same as my friend. They also talked about them using bones and again with this one I will say no more. It is to graphic and horrible to even think about. The mother lost her legal rights to the children but I can tell you it was the hardest childcare job I ever had because I was left up to by the father to teach the children from scratch what was right and wrong and a whole lot of other things. I took the children to church I found out was for the first time and they had never heard the word God, Jesus or the Holy Spirit before that day.
I will tell you that bones they used were from young virgin girls and babies. That is all I will say about it. Bones are used in many types of ceremonies. It's best not to mess with them.

When people die and have a donor card everything that can be used will be used. That includes their bones.
The bones go into a bone bank.
When I herniated a cervical disc in my neck, my neurosurgeon gave me a choice.
Remove bone from my own hip, to replace the bone that had to be removed in order to remove the damaged disc, or receive donated bone from the bone bank.
In my case, he recommended using my own bone as I have other ongoing health problems and he felt the chance of rejection would be minimized.
For an otherwise healthy person in need of a bone transplant, the bone bank is a great alternative!
Medical schools also use bone to study. As to buying or selling human bones I don't know that it would be legal unless perhaps there is a surplus of bones at the bone bank and perhaps they are legally able to sell older bones to raise funds for medical research.

In the days when it was legal to buy and sell human bones, they were used for medical reasons and for art students and artists to draw. I remember that my art school had a real skeleton for the students to draw.
