actually,, most Catholics in my church are spectators.
they sit like monkeys, walk up and get communion (usually talking to the person they are standing behind)
they get communion ...wolf it down, ,,and split.

Yes.
Christianity is not a spectator sport.
Christianity (among other things) requires that you:
+ Worship your creator
+ Develop your relationship with God
+ Help build up the Church, the Body of Christ, the Communion of Saints, the family of believers
Regular attendance and participation in your Church's services can help you reach these goals.
You also obey the Commandment to "keep holy the Lord's day" by going to church on Sundays.
With love in Christ.

most Catholics go to church willingly so there's no "have to"
when they are practising Catholics. Then again we do have what's called "retired Catholics" who go to church infrequently when they feel it's the right thing to do.

Yes, I call myself a Catholic and I have been taught that is puts your soul in grave danger to stay home from church. UNLESS, you have a legitimate reason, (you are ill and don't want to pass it on, someone in your family is ill and you have to stay with them,) or if you CAN'T get to church for some other reason (like bad weather) it's all right. You just need to make every effort to be there.
