First check to make sure that your volume level is not Muted under the sound speaker icon next to the clock at the bottom right hand corner of your screen.
If your volume is not muted, your issue could be one of two things.
1. Your sound card / sound controller is damaged and will need to be replaced or repaired.
2. You are missing your sound drivers. The easiest way I know how to try to get them back. Is right click on MyComputer icon from the desktop or from under your Start menu. Chose Properties, chose Hardware (tab) and click the Device Manager button. Scroll down the list and locate the topic of Sounds / Video and Game Controllers. Expand that topic open so that you can see the devices listed under the topic. Locate either AC97 Audio Controller or Legacy or C-Media Audio Driver or SB Live Series ! , in the list. Note: Your driver file may be listed as something different then the examples I listed above. Once you locate the sound driver file under that topic, right click on it and chose UNinstall. Do not mess around with any Audio or Video Codecs. Codecs are NOT the driver.
Once you uninstall the driver. Restart your computer and when windows comes backup you should get a message that windows has located the hardware and will install the software. Also keep in mind, you might be prompted for your windows cd if windows does not have the driver.
Good Luck

Make sure it's not muted, for one, rofl. I've done that before.
You also want to check on the sound card (or if its onboard, whatever) and make sure that it's working properly.
Do this my right clicking on my computer, then properties. Go to the hardware tab then look at Device Manager. Your sound device should be listed there, right click it and go to properties and make sure everything is all in working order. Update any drivers, as well.
If that doesn't work, you probably have a hardware problem and may just need to replace something.
I'd call the manufacturer of your PC for the best approach to fixing this problem.

This may not work, but I guess at this point, for you, it's worth a shot. Go to your start menu. Then click 'Control Panel'. That brings up a lot of icons. Go to the one that is 'Sounds and Audio Devices'. That will bring up the control panel for your speakers and stuff. It may be that your audio is just muted?? Anyhoo, let me know if this worked out for you!

If it worked before, and your audio settings are correct, you have malware.
Use the Discovery TAB for more info on: malware Your question has been answered hundreds, nay thousands, of times.
If it never worked before, your audio card may be toast or the driver is corrupt / missing. Check in the Device Manager.
