What size graphics tablet should I get?

I'm interested in drawing comics and would like to know the ideal size graphics tablet for doing so.

If you are going to be tracing paper drawings or photographs, you need one as big as the drawing. If you intend to draw in big sweeping lines, you need one that big. Otherwise a relatively small one will do (mine is a Wacom with about 4x6") since it scales to the window in use and you can treat starting points like a mouse or a fixed pen - with a mouse you can draw a line, lift the mouse, move it over and set it down and the cursor hasn't moved. With a fixed pen mode, when you touch the pad the cursor jumps to that point.
