There are a few company's that make a spray foaming Nitro Wash a web search will find them. Until then you can use a damp toothbrush to get most of the crud off.

Like Crazy said, gas rc cars tend to be very big and very pricey. If you just want to give it a try you'll be going with a nitro powered car. The link below is to a site I buy rc stuff from all the time. They don't say how fast the car can go, but i'd guess maybe 35-40 mph tops. That may not sound very fast, but the car is small and will get out of sight in just a few seconds. That site has lots of different cars to look at, but you can google for 'rc rtr nitro car' and find all sorts of vendors. Make sure to read the 'required items' to know what else you'll need. The 'rtr' stands for 'ready to run' and doesn't really cost much more than a kit. Again, Crazy is right about the cars needing constant cleaning. You can probably get away with driving the car a few times between cleanings, but the more you clean it the longer it will last. Any rtr car you get should some with cleaning tips.

I believe the stuff he is talking about is called NitroBlast and runs about 7 bucks a can. You can also try some carberator cleaner from Wal-Mart, we use Super-Tech, it's about a buck a can. You'll also need some brushes like toothbrushes and wire bristled brushes. Try to stray away from using the carb cleaner on the plastic parts, you can use water on the plastic. Also a can of compressed air or an air compressor will help with a lot of it. And don't venture into the motor, if you don't know what you are doing, you can really mess something up doing that. Oh and don't get the carb cleaner in your mouth or eyes, not only does it taste really bad, it will hurt your lips for quite a while, happened to me the other day. Good Luck and Have Fun. Keep your manual close by or download one off the net.

Best thing ti do is to take the entire car apart and clean it piece by piece. That's what i always do. That way you can see if any of the parts are worn down or broken. When you take your car apart lay all the parts next to it, in the same order you took it apart.
I forgot what its called but its pink and its a pump spray. Spray and scrub with a tooth brush then rinse with water. The pink stuff is safe on you hands, on plastics, environment. It also lives a lite oily film on the metal parts which keeps the metal parts from rusting. Any RC hobby shop should carry it. Like I said I forgot the name but the color is pink. Works great. That's all I use on all my rc's ( nitro & gas) cars, boats, helis, planes.
