go to settign under the LAN connections the properties, go to tcp/ip

Then instead of autopmatic use ip adress 192.168.5.2 subnett 255.255.255.0 and gatway 192.168.5.1

now set the other computer for exact same only 192.168.5.1

Now one there should be no limited connectivity.

Limited connectvity means your ip address is messed up or you are not on the same flow connection one computer may be at 10 MBS while the other is at 100 also they can be set from half and full settings. All need to be the same to get full connection best bet is to have it set for auto config.

...limited connection comes from 2 things...either its the cable you are using that is defective (sometimes reversing cable works in the case that it is a cross-over cable) or the speed of the network card (in many cases setting it to Auto Detect will work) or if you set it at 100 mbps on one pc make sure the same speed is set for the other pc. Hope this helps :)

Try Using a cross over cable. You can't use a straight through RJ-45 (lan wire) to connect them.

Each laptop needs an IP address (suggest 192.168.1.1 & 192.168.1.2 with subnet mask of 255.255.255.0) statically configured. You need to set this up in network properties under TCP/IP.

The cable should be a crossover cable if your connecting nic to nic.
