the one where Portland traded away Randolph to the Knicks for Frye and Francis. Randolph was one of the best PF's in the West last year, and him with Oden and Roy could have allowed Portland to contend for a playoff spot next year. Now they are without their all star PF and are stuck with a washed up Steve Frances and a bench type player in Frye. This is one of the most horrible trades I have ever seen in sports.

Frances will not be in Portland next year, he wants to play with his boyfriend Cuttino in L.A.

Portland was desperate to unload Randolph but no team was willing to take on his fat contract. Plus, Zach has a bad reputation from his previous history as a Jailblazer and he doesn't really play defense. Only New York, which was the destination for overpaid losers, was willing to take a chance on the big guy. The move was made to give Lamarcus Alderidge a chance to blossom at power forward where Randolph used to take up all the minutes. Alderidge is a more complete big men because he can score in the low block but also can complement Oden and block shots. Those 2 will give Portland a dymanic frontcourt for years to come. The Trailblazers did not trade for Steve Francis to acquire his service. It's just because Randolph made so much money, Portland had to find a player with a big enough contract to match him. They will eventually buy out Francis contract but they will find a good use for Channing Frye. Frye is a young forward who could actually thrive in Portland alongside Oden too. He's slim and long but he blocks shots and can hit from 18 feet. The Portland trade was one of the addition by subtraction trades that may benefit the Blazers in the long run.

Obviously, the Knicks on paper got the better part of the deal. I have no idea what the Blazers want with Stevie Franchise Killer and Frye. Frye will make a nice backup for Oden and Aldridge, along with Josh McRoberts, but the Franchise Killer???

The Blazers are just loaded with young talent. Heck, they just drafted a potential NBA starting five, on top of their existing talent. But where do they want to go with this? I hope that with Jarret Jack and Taureen Green on the roster, they don't have visions of the Franchise Killer starting at the point. Given their draft success, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Franchise Killer get traded for a draft pick next year.

Losing Randolph isn't a big deal. He's a ball hog on a team with the best young talent in the league. Just dumping his salary is a good thing for the Blazers. I just figured they would want more than a backup and the Killer in return.

The trade was good for Portland. They got rid of someone they dont want around their young talent. Steve francis will never play for Portland, he will be bought out of his contract this week. Channing Frye is another young player who can knock down a few jumpers, and will not crowd the paint, the way Randolph would have,

I agree, and I'm a Knicks fan. That you traded away Randolph is understandable, since you want your young players to develop, and they can't with Randolph the #1 option. Plus his attitude never seemed that great (let's hope it improves in New York). But what you got back was terrible.

You don't even want Francis to play because he'll impede the development of your young players. And he's supposedly a locker room cancer. Frye is not a bad player, and he has a good jump shot for a big man, but he just doesn't play with much intensity.

Very few thought it was a horrible trade. The Blazers wanted to get rid of Randolph because he would have hindered the development of LaMarcus Aldridge, plus he was the last remaining Jail Blazer, the image they wanted to shed. Now that they got rid of him, they have a great young front-line in Greg Oden, LaMarcus Aldridge, and Channing Frye. Francis's contract will likely be bought out.

This was a great trade for Portland. It gets rid of the last remaining "Jail Blazers" away from all this young talent on their team. While Randolph may be a talented player, he's a bad guy and it was smart of Portland to get him away from a very young guy like Oden.

im a knick fan. i think it was a great trade. Frye will never be demanding and they will let go of francis.aldridge is going to take over. oden will compliment fryes shots and aldridges toughness and inside presence. Good trade for portland. Good trade for ny. we both came off. Everyone knows how easy it is to find drugs in portland. I lived there for 4 months. I know. I also know that oden aldridge, and frye coming off the bench for aldridge is great. webster/outlaw/roy...frickin wonderful. Im happy for portland, the city of roses got rid of a big thorn. His off court IQ is not that great.

scott is right. obviously this trade on paper favors NY but it goes beyond stats for portland. portland wants good character guys and they are trying to shed the jailblazers image. there is no doubt that zach is a great baller but he gets into too much trouble and besides, portland has aldridge and mcroberts in the waiting, neither will put up 20/10 but they arent trouble makers like zach. portland just wanted to get rid of guys they didnt want and NY was a team that did want him. besides, portland bought out francis' contract so he aint a blazer.

As fan of neither team, I can honestly say that NY got the better of the deal. In Francis Portland is getting a attitude in return.

I am a knick fan and cannot be disappointed on the trade from my perspective....not sure on Portland's perspective.

I am very glad to see Francis go.....he was a horrible pickup since Thomas announced he was coming to the Knicks.

I liked Frye .....but we can do without him
