If you have already started reinstalling the OS and stopped before it was finished you will not be able to log in or get to the desktop until the installation is finished. You are going to have to start the reinstallation over again and finish it this time. If you did a clean install all previous data is gone. The computer won't let you in because not all the files that the OS needs to start are installed yet since you stopped the installaton. Put your OS CD in the drive and reboot and start the setup process over again.

Good luck hope this helps

I'm a dad and even though what you have done could be really nasty (depending on how much important data is on that computer in case it is irrecoverable), I would really appreciate it if my son/daughter called me at work to tell me what just happened so I can take the best course of action. Remember, moms and dads are not monsters but can become ones with the right mix of ingredients ;)

I have hacked myself out of similar situations using the recovery console or at least been able to get my data out before a Windows reinstall writes a clean partition table (read data ends here!) but for that you usually need to know the admin password - your dad definitely knows this.

Good luck!

Try your System Restore CD or DVD that came with your system. It should be bootable, meaning that your system will boot up with the CD/DVD when you turn it on.

This is the case for Dell machines. What type of machine do you have?

You turn off your pc-then turn it on. You will have only 2 or 3 seconds to hit the key that does it (it will say which one on your screen) F10 on mine. If you dont hit it soon enough turn it off and try again.

Look for software called ERD Commander.

if it is not f10 or f6 to do system restore try f8 repeatedly, but you have to be fast in doing it.
