I have a G-4 tower with the Mirror face. My friend gave me a copy of an update for the computer, and I can't update it. I thought I had to press "C" when I start the computer and it will install the DVD, but it doesn't. Any suggestions?

You press C so that when the computer restarts it will boot to CD. Now this is applicable to the Mac OS discs (CD/DVD) when running disk repair or reinstalling the OS not for the update. What kind of OS you have? What you need to do is to boot to your desktop put the CD/DVD inside your DVD ROM and double click the image so you can install the update.

It depends on your Mac OS version.
Go to the Apple website and read the FAQ's or post on their forums. If updates are available, you should be able to download them from Apple.
