A couple friends of mine recently bought computers from Best Buy, for an additional cost, geek squad offers to optimize windows vista for you. What does geek squad do? Is it worth it? Can a person with good to excellent computer knowledge do it? thanks.

A person with medium computer skills could do what the Geek Squad does, hell to be honest if you know how to download and run a simple program or two you could do it. They basically run a few programs, that anybody can download for free. Doing it on a brand new computer is beyond pointless anyway, it doesn't have anything in there to slow it down yet, like viruses, spyware, leftover temp files etc. Save your money and invest it in a good anti-spyware or anti-virus program.

Geek Squad is such a joke. I bought a program at Best Buy for $139.99 that not only optimizes Vista, but also gives you control beyond the regular administrator settings Vista offers. Its called Vista Optimize. Its very new, and not many people know about it yet. $140 bucks can sound like a lot for a program, but I used this free gift card I got from here: http://www.timsfreestuff.com/63 So technically, it didnt cost me anything at all. I highly reccomend giving it a try it.

Geek Squad is a joke, they focus more on hiring good salesmen and train them a little with computer, rather than hiring good computer people.

There are plenty of ways to tweak Vista for free, just google for Vista Tweaks.

They change some of your settings to make it faster. I did it myself with a program I bought online for $25. Auslogics Speedboost--it works great and is easy to use. Do a search and download it if you like.
