Hey, I am all for freedom of speech, but these books would be better off if they were used for fuel instead of just letting the silverfish eat them up.

To clarify folks, I don't believe in burning a book because I disagree with the material, I am just saying that nobody is reading this crap and these books could be used in a better manner if they were used to heat someone's home, don't you think.

I understand what you are trying to say...
Perhaps instead of buring, one could think of a way to recycle useless and unwanted books for compost or toliet paper or even a way to insulate one's house...you know, fill in the cracks...
I feel more sorry for the trees that were wasted for stuff like that...

No matter how disgusting or disheartening the content, books should never be burned. There's a reason for freedom of expression, and censorship just contradicts for which everything free-standing countries stand. Take the Ku Klux Klan. Most everyone thinks that they're an archaic and hateful institution, but they have the right to assemble and pass out hate-propaganda regardless. In order to benefit from the freedoms we're granted, we have to accept that people will use it to spread bigotry and sexism.

Even if you disagree with the material burning is censorship. I read many things and do not agree with everything in the material. Sometimes the best way to find out about something you disagree with is to read the material from the opposing view. Then you can make a well informed decision.

I think it's dangerous for anyone to think that they can determine which thought and books are acceptable, and which ones are not. Freedom of speech means you embrace the good with the bad. Otherwise, it's not real freedom.
And considering that burning books is the kind of crap the Nazis and the Taliban, along with other oppressive regimes pulled, I don't think book burning has a really good history that you would want to aspire to, whatever book you are offended by.

No book should be burned. Burning books is only for the ignorant, the uninformed or Nazis. No sane person should want to burn a book, however should certain things not be published. Probably. Should we take someone's first amendment right to write crap. NO. Because just as they have the right to write as much drivel as they can pour out, you have the right to not have to read it, look at it or listen to anyone else who has read it.

Ok. We get it. You hate Andrea Dworkin and all of her material. I don't like her stuff either.
Your obsessive posting about her is clogging up the board for other people who actually want to have intelligent discussions. Feel free to contribute useful content, but please, stop the senseless hate posts.
Thank you.
Edit@Lekmich: The questioner is annonying , but your comment was WAY out of line.

Why?
Give just 1 GOOD reason why, in these cases freedom of speech should be surpressed.
Just cos you disagree with them isn't a good enough reason.

Okay....sir....mam....what ever you are....please step into my office and make yourself comfortable on my couch....go ahead...lie down....
The question here is really not at all about whether the books should be burned or not is it now....
The question is...when exactly did you first begin having obsessive thoughts about Andrea Dworkin ???
And more specifically...did these thoughts start out as sexual and lead to hate, or was it first hate that lead to your sexual obsession with this woman???
Relax....and open up....we really need to get to the bottom of this compulsion of yours friend......

No. Just because of principle. The future generations should be able to read and laugh hysterically at the stupidity.
On a far less interesting note, check this out:
"Just cos you disagree with them isn't a good enough reason."
I read the "Just cos" and I though it was "Just cosine..."
I think I should take a break.
