Hi i am 16 years old and i really like acting, i am in a wheelchair and i have been told i would make a good model for hair and makeup. Does anybody know anywhere i can contact about acting work or modelling, i already go to a drama group but it is only for disabled and we do shows but we arent linked with any agencies or anything. Do i need an agent? How do i get one? If there is any models or actresses/actors who can help me please do i will really appreciate it!
Thanks x

I don't have a firm answer for you but applaude you! It's great to hear your can -do sprit in making your disability an ability!

The only thing I know is to check the paper. My cousin just did with no acting tallet just got a extra role in the next Indiania Jones just for walking by in a few scenes he is making $300 in a day. He lives in CT, and I think there are always ads in the paper even in my town.

best of luck to you!

The last answerer assumes you are British, but are you? The answer would be different if you live in the states or anywhere else for that matter.

In general, for extra work you do not need an agent, however they do need to be mindful of your special needs. Not every set will be set up for accessibility whether or not it should be. TV shows may be much more accessible since they are mostly based in the same location with some scenes on location, whereas films are shot all on location.

If I were you, I would come up with a letter stating my dream and my special needs and send it out to agencies along with a few photos and see what response you get. If you live in the US or Canada and you want to find a legitimate agent to represent you for commercials, TV & film go to Sag.org. Use the dropdown menu on the right labeled 'resources' and choose 'agent information'. On the next screen, on the left choose 'Find a SAG franchised agent' and follow the directions.

As for modeling, go directly to the sites for the big agencies and start there but I would definitely look into smaller agencies as well.

For extra work, the agencies I know of do charge a fee to have you photo stored in their computer and that is industry standard here for companies that hire extras. The fee is about $25-35.

Good luck!

I'm assuming you're British!

Try listing yourself on www.extras.co.uk.

It is updated daily with castings for models, extras and actresses. Check back regularly and apply to anything which takes your fancy.

Good luck, and hope this helped.

Take care and email me from my profile page if you have any questions :]
