If you like reading non-fiction, about what goes on nowadays - I recommend these two -
1) "Under the Loving Care of the Fatherly Leader"
written by Bradley K. Martin
2) "Rogue Regime"
written by Jasper Becker
These two well-written books give an insight about the North Korean Government.
Fiction?
Try all the books written by Clive Cussler.
The hero is Dirk Pitt, with his sidekick Al Giordino. These are well-written.

although stephen king writes more towards horror, he is great and I suggest you read anything from him. Lisey's Story has mainly fiction and romance and it is by Stephen King. Have fun reading!

Try Janet Evanovich books. Her number series is funny. Also try her "Full" series. The JD Robb "In Death" series is great too. Tami Hoag is a great author also.

Try some Brian Jacques or if you are not too into large books, perhaps Lois Lowry, or any of J.R.R. Tolkiens stories.
