I cannot turn the steering wheel, neither can I turn the key. The steerings is very stiff and is not turning in either direction. I think that I locked up the steering wheel or the ignition, but I have no way of unlocking it. Please any one have an idea short of a hammer and a screwdriver, please let me know. Thanks

It sounds like the ignition lock (thing the key goes inside) is boogered up.

The only way to fix this is pull the stearing wheel and replaced the ignition lock.

Occasionally, the ignition "rack" (thing that connects the ignition lock to the ignition switch) will break. It's a small cast metal piece of junk that can snap any time at the worst possible moment. On the newer cars it might be plastic. The procedure for replacing this is the same as pulling the ignition lock. Neither are fun to do and you need a few more specialty tools than other repairs.

Since you have an airbag in the steering wheel, I'd pay someone, a reputab;e shop, to do the work so you don't booger up the airbag system.

If the tranny isn't perfectly "locked" you can try to rock the car front to back or back to front and see if this aligns any safety mechanism that prevents turning the key and henceforth the steering wheel. If you are parked on an incline then chock the wheels before you get on the low end of the car so you don't run yourself over just in case the tranny slips.

Good Luck! (FORD= Fix Or Repair Daily)

Turn the steering wheel to the left hold it there and turn the key at the same time. Make sure to try to push up on the shifter to park again to make sure she's engaged into park.

You may want to turn the steering wheel from left to right while turning the key. If this does not work you may need an ignition cylinder. Ask your local car guy that you are cool with. He may be able to help you.

Turn the wheel to the right and while holding it, try to remove the key. Also while doing that see if you can get it to start.
Then do the same to the left.
It should come out.
