There are different types of cylinder head design:
Different combustion chamber designs:
(a) Wedge chamber
(b) Hemispherical combustion
(c) Bowl in piston
(d) Bath tub
A major breakthrough occurred in 1951 when the Chrysler Corporation introduced its hemispherical combustion chamber on its 331-cubic-inch V8.
As in the 1950s and '60s, when the Dodge Hemi V-8 became a legitimate legend, there's more to the engine than simply the combustion chambers. This new, 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 is hardly cutting edge, as it has two valves per cylinder instead of four, and it has overhead valves and pushrods instead of overhead camshafts. There's an argument to be made that Dodge's 4.7-liter, 230-horsepower V-8 is really more technologically advanced.
Mickey Thompson experimented with Hemi heads on Pontiacs in the 1960s and you'll recall that the division designed an experimental aluminum Pontiac Hemi engine, reported on in the March 2002 issue of HPP.
The 5.7-liter, 350-horsepower V-8 in the Corvette is similar in design to Dodge's 5.7-liter, 335-horsepower Hemi V-8.
Many four-cylinder Mitsubishi engines have hemispherical combustion chambers.

A hemi is the design of the combustion chamber. It is half of a hemisphere. They say it is much more powerful.
But they had to add a secound spark plug to each cyl to make it fire correctly do to the fact there was not enough turbulance in the chamber to properly mix the fuel and air.
Go to the dealer or Ebay and buy a couple emblems that say HEMI. Dont be cheap this is a big upgrade buy the nice ones. Put one on either side and one in the back then put one on the underside of the hood so when anyone askes; Have you really got a hemi under there?, you can say, yes, why yes I do. (stand a little taller when you say that)

Its the shape of the combustion chambers in your cylinder head. Hemi means hemisphere or think of a ball split in half.

it is an engine tHAT DIFFERS OTHERS BY three main ways:
-The hemispherical combustion chambers create better thermal and volumetric efficiency. Thus, the engine can create more power without increasing compression, which would entail a higher octane fuel.
-Valves are placed directly across from each other, as opposed to side-by-side, to allow better intake and exhaust gas flow.
-The spark plugs are better positioned to provide maximum ignition combustion in the chambers

It's an overrated type of engine. You can not just add it to your car.
