Is there any other trade so far...i know theyre not over yet, but so far that can top the addition of Gomez and Drury to the rangers? With these 2 new players we could be looking at a stanley cup team here. As being a die hard rangers fan ive realized the last two seasons we were a good team with good playoff potential, however we never had that stanley cup potential, but with drury an gomez, i think the rangers are going to be the team to beat.

So they picked up those guys, they lost nylander to edmonton, they'll lose shanahan (not enough space under cap), they'll lose some more of their key guys to keep under the cap. They will get a little better but not THAT much. Which means they still have cup potential.

You're right, you do have play-off potential. The addition of those two players is amazing. But you have to see how it plays out. As of now, the Rangers pick was probably the best so far, but the Flyers' have Briere, and there is still more dealing to be done. You guys did lose Nylander however. In my opinion, he was your best player. But, if Jagr plays the way he did in this past year's play-off series' then you may have a decent team. I'm a Flyers fan, and I'm looking forward to the 16 games a year we'll be playing the Rangers. I think the Eastern conference is starting to become a threat.

If the Stanley Cup was handed out to the team who made the biggest splash in free agency the Rangers would have an ongoing Dynasty dating back to 1994.

But in all reality, two great signings. A nice mix of young players and veterans, and with Marc Staal coming up this year the Rangers will be scary team to face if they can put it together. Good luck.

I don't know if you can top it offensively, but Avs got Hannan and Smyth...that's up there as well.

EDIT:
And here's just my fav team crazy rant...the Lightning at least non-FA trade wise, is returning basically the same team with a goalie with 1 extra year experience as a starter in his 5th year. Their only losses were Perrin and Sarich (being the worst), gained Gratton and Ouellet, and are rumored to be pursuing Zubrus (to replace Sarich...which is an upgrade). So here's the fantasy land part....they need a D and C, they get Zubrus and then Forsberg makes decision for one more year and Lightning pick him up. Ok I'm back down to earth now. But Zubrus is possible, and then another stronger center than Perrin (which won't be hard) we'll have the same offensive minded team as last year that got a small defensive upgrade towards the end of the season with O'Brien, Stewart and Ward. I'd say they won't slip up in the last 5 games of the season and hand the division to ATL this coming year.

Well, I'm pretty sure the Flyers topped the Rangers. They got Daniel Briere from free agency and techinically got Kimmo Timonen and Scott Hartnell in free agency also because they were going to be free agents on July 1st, but their rights got traded to the Flyers and they got re-signed. And the Flyers also traded for Jason Smith and Jeoffrey Lupul and got rid of Joni Pitkanen in one move....and another small fact, 3 of the 5 players they got (Timonen, Smith and Briere) were they're teams captians last season. They got a lot of Veteran expierence and fixed their need for a top-line center and a dependable defenseman, while getting rid of the mess that is Joni Pitkanen...good luck with him Edmonton.

Now onto the Rangers...yeah you got two pretty good centers in Drury and Gomez, but they lost the on of the only guys in the league that can play with Jagr (Micheal Nylander) and they have no defense. Their defense depth chart looks like this: Daniel Girardi, Marek Malik, Paul Mara, Thomas Pock, Fedor Tyutin, Michal Rozsival, and David Liffiton....what is that? It's a good AHL defense core at best.

Yeah, they got 2 of the best guy in free agency, but your team is still ****....they'll finish 3rd in the division at best....my bet is 4th.

Sure, they are fine additions but they are spending all this money on offense and not doing anything to improve their blue line. The rangers aren't bad on D but they really don't set the world on fire there. They will just need to hope that they can control the puck a hell of alot. They have often spent alot for players in NY but it's never made a big difference. Maybe this time will be different. Only time will tell

Gain Drury and Gomez while losing Nylander, who did have great chemistry with Jagr and maybe lose Shanahan. Yes, 2 great character guys gained and at the same time losing atleast one, maybe 2 decent players.
It can be argued that the Flyers did as well or better with Briere, Lupul, Smith, Hartnell and Timonen while losing only Pitkanen and Sandersson.

The Rangers did great in free agency. Im an Avs fan and we picked up Ryan Smyth and Scott Hannan. I think the the Rangers can take the east since the Sabres suck now but who knows who will come out on top in the west

You're probably right, that was my first thought when the news broke. Drury and Jagr on one line and Gomez and Shanny on the second... their power play is going to be incredible, they had a good one last year, I like that they move a forward back to the point, look at the possibilities now!!

Not a Rangers fan BUT it is one (not the best)of the best I've seen yet. I think they are going to be a great team this year, that is if the chemistry is there???

I myself like what the Av's have gotten thus far. We needed defense sooooooooooo badly. Now only if we could cure our goaltending, although if Budaj plays the way he played in playoffs, we are good to go.

In buffalo they had 1A and 1B lines so its in comparison to he's a genuine #2 midsection. i think of they'll play around preseason and see what works, and in the event that they droop throughout the time of the season ever they'll prolly change it up. i think of in all probability gomez . . . yet who is familiar with. they might get much less production on the 1st line by putting drury in, even if it would desire to boost the two line production. Its approximately standard targets no longer approximately what number one line scores. unfold out your expertise so as that they might't in simple terms throw out a checking line every time.
