Can't see that it would have made much of a difference to anybody, seeing as they can't guarantee next day delivery anywhere anymore.

Dear Martin, I am fully informed about the "reasons" for the postal strike, I doubt that many of the postmen are though or they would never have seen the need to strike in the first place. Another classic example of the unions leading their members around by the nose. And just to make sure you don't go spreading your disinformation anywhere else, "In 2005-06 the national target for First Class mail to be delivered by the next working day is 93%". in case you want to check that I'm not making it up.
They don't even TRY to get all the letters there on time, let alone succeed!

And while I'm picking your reply to pieces Martin, I haven't been unemployed since 1993 and get no money from the government at all, so that was a bit of a cheap shot on your part.

And while you're whining about getting up at quarter to four, do you get all your afternoons and evenings off in recompense? What about Sundays?
Lots of people working all over the UK would like your cushy terms and conditions.

The only difference it made to me was I didn't have to put up with the dog barking like mad at the postman, probably wouldn't have noticed otherwise. You can't guarantee next day delivery any more and with the ridiculously high postal charges that have been brought in just to send something as simple as a letter or a greetings card, which now have to be under a certain size or you get charged more, makes me more inclined to stick with emailing!

Yes, a letter to my home arrived a day late,O.K., I can live with that. What I don't like is postal workers whingeing when they have what most of us don't a) relative job security,b) an excellent "last salary pension" scheme,c) sick pay, full for first six months absence,1/2 finally, many more paid holidays than private sector workers. T he sooner the monopoly of the post office is ended the better,I would rather trust my considerable amount of daily correspondence to a private company, this may be more official, the postal "service" has been going down the drain for a long time

Nope.
I asked, this time last week, if anyone was likely to notice the difference. http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AsAus_SmNArHF6xXC7TlygkhBgx.?qid=20070626172738AAyWl5x
