Let me just start off by saying he's a great college player, and im sure everyone's heard that he couldn't bench 185, but combine results say that he only has a 26 inch vertical leap and he was slower than Greg Oden. I think he should definitely bulk up this summer.i know ppl r gonna say that oh he inst gonna play power forward hes probably gonna be small forward, and that doesn't require as much strength, well guess what that doesn't stop other teams from putting a big power forward to defend him, and if he tries to go in the paint and score and get the rebounds, he's definitely gonna get pushed over. People say KG's skinny, take another look at him he's not Garnett is ripped. Lets put his strength into perspective http://100percentinjuryrate.blogspot.com/2007/06/george-w-bush-and-lot-of-other-guys.html
it says George Bush reps 185 5 times, and it also has other ppl. Also Durant's skinny, he will get pushed over if teams put bigger defenders on him and he'll get hurt more. opinions?

It's almost impossible to say how NCAA success will translate into NBA glory. I will say that the NBA is an extremely physical sport these days and I think defenders will just knock him around...rookies (and the unproven players) rarely get the calls to go their way. Unless he gets a lot stronger, I don't think his prospects are too bright. I could be wrong, but I just don't think the NBA rewards finesse over brawn these days - at least if your 6' 9" it doesn't.

Durant is going to be a 12 time all star, period. He'll be one of the top 20-30 players ever (as will Oden). Fact is, he's a winner and knows how to play ball. Let me put it this way: Kwame Brown killed during his testing, and you see how that turned out. "Athletic ability" as it is measured at pre-draft camps doesn't tell the whole story...there's all sorts of other aspects of being a good NBA player. Fact is, someone can have all of the athletic ability in the world and not have the skills to be an NBA player.

First of all, he's a winner. He's the closest I've seen to having the Jordan/Kobe/Magic "This is my game, we're winning and I'm going to make it happen" gene, and there's no test for that. Second, he's amazingly diverse offensively...let them put a big guy on him. He'll drive by them and take a mid-range jumper every time. Small, quick guy guarding him? He'll shoot over or back them down. Third, there's aspects of athletic ability that can't be measured, like kinesthetic body control and reaction time (especially during a game situation).

All I'm saying is watch the first half of the Kansas game and tell me he's not going to dominate. I know its only one game, but that guy ooooooozes skill. He did that all year.

The NBA isn't about who can bench press the most its is about who is the best basketball player. If he couldn't bench 185 at draft camp he couldn't do it in college and I think everyone would agree he was by far the best college basketball player last year. KD has post moves (see the Ok St game) and once he balks up he will be and unstoppable scorer. He will end up being a mix beween Dirk and KG and will have more rings than both by the time his career ends

Kevin Durant isn't an NBA power forward. It's that simple. He has very limited potential at PF, and almost limitless potential at SF. With that in mind, bulging muscles are less of a concern. He won't be banging around down low.

Sure, he needs to bulk up, but the amount of bulking up he needs to play SF is definitely achievable.

I agree... but dude, he's still a kid... only 1 year removed from high school. I was not huge in HS, but Im a lot bigger now that Im in my 20's. I think with NBA conditioning he will get a lot bigger and stronger. I wouldnt stress on him too much. Overall, hes still a great shooter... he dosnt have to go heads up with Shaq or anything.

I agree, KG is freakin yoked....

how much someone can bench doesnt indicate their whole strength. have you ever played basketball before? I know plenty of posts that are top of the district that vcant hardly bench anything but theyre rough as hell down in the post and strong.

i do agree he needs to lift a little more but just because he cant bench 185 doesnt mean hes weak. On that note...I'm a 6'2 girl and i can almost bench more than him...haha

KD
Reminds me a lot of Shawn Kemp, slender, very athletic, and excellent energy. Although, I think KD has a better head on his shoulders. What basically concerns me is, 50 games into the season me may be worn out. Everyone does, even Jordan, Magic and Bird in thier first season.

He's amazing except he deffinatly has to bulk up! The NBA has personal trainers so rookies won't be so bulked but he will grow and every year bulk up. He will need extra help but when he starts to grow. Tehre will eb no stop to his excellence in the NBA!

Durrant has skills, he will be an All Star by season two, and may win rookie of the year, he will be fine.
