I would take along something like a syringe containing the immunisation / cure for small pox as this would save hundreds of millions of lives. I would be less interested in trying to impress people and also it would be very dangerous to give them advanced technology that could adversely affect the course of history (i.e. the Nazis end up building ICBM guided missiles and win WW2 becuase you showed the wrong person 100 years ago a laptop or something). Giving them a vaccine to a killer disease would not affect the natural development of technology and would purely help save lives. However, who is to say that in doing so, you change the population densities, demographics etc to the extent that Hitler still wins the war because less Germans died of Smallpox or something! Messing with history could be very dangerous as there are just too many variables; you may end up deleting your own future existence.

Most of the modern gadget like phone, TV, Radio, Cell Phone etc. won't work with the technologies availble a 100 years ago. So, you need to take a battery operated Laptop with all the files loaded to show them the modern life.

I would bring a stack of Sunday's newspaper's with me. Today's newspapers have some much information, that they would be of great value when you travel back in time. Make sure it's Sunday's though, no matter what kind of criticism you come against, no one will think you've fabricated that many pages!

Something fairly benign, like a felt tip pen or a roll of paper towels . Nothing too scary, nothing with a battery that lights and beeps. I wouldn't want to induce a frenzy of mass hysteria that would lead to my being beaten to death.
