31.
The amount of money that a salesperson makes varies directly as the total amount of sales made. If the salesperson recieves $7,500 for selling a house for $120,000 how much will he or she make if he or she sells a house for $150,000

Hi, For #31, set up a proportion:
commission/cost = commission/cost

7500/120000 = x/150000

Cross-multiply and solve to get x = 9375

For #32, if y varies inversely as the square of x, then x² will be on the bottom, but there's always a constant of variation, so the general formula for this problem is y = k/x². Plugging in values of x and y allows us to solve for the constant, k.

y = k/x²
2 = k/4²
2 = k/16
k = 32 this is the constant of variation.

I hope that helps!! :-)

Problem 31 is a simple direct variation problem. You can think of the situation as a proportion. 7500 is to 120000 as what is to 150000.

7500 / 120000 = x / 150000.

Cross multiplying yields

120000x = 1125000000

Divide by 120000.

x = 9375

The salesperson will earn $9375.

Hope this helps.

31. The amount of money a saleperson MAKES varies directly as the total amount of sale MADE.

He made 120,000. He makes 7,500

7,500=120,000k

k = 75 / 1,200

k = 1/16

$=1/16(150,000)

$=9375

32. y=k/x^2

2=k/16

k=32

Profit = P = Ks, where s = sales
7500 = K*120,000
K = 7500/120000= =.0625
So P=.0625s

P = .0625(150000) = $9,375

y= K/x^2
2=K/4^2
K = 2*4^2 = 32

31) we need to find constant c

m = cs
7500 = 120000c
c = 7500/120000
c = .0625

m = .0625 * 150000
m = $9375

32
y = c(1/x^2)
2 = c(1/16)
c = 32

the constant is 32

7500=x
120000=100%
7500*100/120000=6.25%

then calculate the 6.25% of 150000
150000=100%
x=6.25%
6.25*150000/100=9375

31. 7500 is 6.25% of 120000. x (the answer) must be 6.25% of 150000. Therefore, it is $9375.

32. no idea. x^2 is 16, and that's about all i can help with.
