He wouldn't do this for appendicitis. There are other diseases that would be checked this way. (If you think what he did was unappropriate contact your local medical board)

This never happened to me during a gynecological exam, but it did to my friend. She was suspected of having PCOS and possible other complications so they had to do an extended exam and that was one part of it- finger up the butt.
If your gyno is male, there should be a nurse in the room at ALL times.
