I don't know what the dimensions are of assertiveness training, but I believe that the basic steps are:
1. State what you see as the problem
2. Tell the person giving you the problem how the problem or what they are doing makes you feel
3. State possible solutions to the problem
4. State what you are going to do if the problem persists.
and sometimes 5. Negotiate a settlement.

There are variations to the above steps depending on the situation and the goal of your move, such as negotiating a fair price for something, but I think those are the basic steps.
The dimensions may be emotional feelings, strength of relationship, desire to reach an agreement, factors that may vary and determine how successful being assertive may be. But basically the purpose of being assertive is to state your position without blaming the other person or making them feel bad; usually you are trying to find a way for you both to maintain your integrity and be informative rather than hurtful in trying to get someone to change what they are doing.
