I answered your last question, but I guess I didn't make myself clear.

Your Windows Update Installer is corrupted. Call Microsoft for free, they will help you..

The reason we asked if yours is LEGAL is Microsoft could sue you if it's not.

The short method: Re-install Windows.

Long answer: I'd need more details.

I doubt you're being flagged as having an illegal copy of Windows, although "Windows Genuine Advantage" is known to have a high enough rate of false positives that it might have pegged, you, but from the information that you presented...it just seems like the operating system has some issues, possibly spyware or virus related.

Short of scanning and repairing those, re-installing the OS might be best.

windows has released a genuine activation patch install and they know if the key used is illegal and if you wait for the computer to tell you there are updates you would not have noticed this, if you all of a sudden try to do updates yourself it will not let you. if you boulght this computer and it has a sticker with the key on it, call microsoft, if not buy win xp home for around $70.

Just go Start - Run then type in services.msc then just put the cryptographic service on manual and start it. Hope this helps,
