I've always wanted to name my daughter after my grandmother, Vallie. I was considering Valentina and calling her Vallie but have been getting a lot of negative responses. My brother just told me it sounds like a Hispanic name. (I told him so does Nina, LOL.) Just wanting some opinions. Also, Does it sound okay with the name Aidan (her brother)? Thanks.

Oh, and IF this one is a girl... the due date is very close to Valentine's Day.

My grandmother, Vallie, was actually named after her aunt Valentina (who was called Vallie). She died at the age of 4 so my granmother never knew her. They were both Czech.

I would go with naming her Vallie before naming her Valentina. Vallie is prettier anyways.

Personally, it is a little cheesy to name her Valentina being so close to Valentine's Day, but I DO like Vallie. I know you didn't ask for other suggestions but what about Valerie and call her Vallie. However, all in all, it really doesn't matter what we think, it is your child and you should name her whatever you want. Best Wishes.

I know a girl named Valentina and she is Puerto Rican. We call her Tina for short.
So, don't bank on her being called Vallie as her nickname.
Valerie is a much better choice and her nickname then would most likely be Vallie or Val.
Would you consider Veronica or Victoria? Because in the Jewish custom, you only have to use the first letter of the deceased relative's name to consider it being named for them.

I personally don't like the name, not that it's not pretty, it's just not what I would pick. Not to mention it would be hard for a toddler to try to say, and I couldn't imagine a 5 year old trying to spell that too. It's too much of a name... (if that makes sense). If you want to call her Vallie, just name her that. Or Vale, Vaylie, Valerie are some close options too....

Personally I don't like the name. My b-day is the day after Valentines day and I'm glad my mother didn't name me after the holiday. Your brother is right, it does sound Hispanic. The only other person I ever knew with that name was Russian. Aidan is a trendy name right now, I would match up my girl with that and give her the middle name Vallie. I like Riley, Logan, Hailey or Madison. Good luck!

Valentina is a beautiful name. First of all tell your brother not to be stupid, Valentina is not a hispanic name but a lot of hispanic girls are named Valentina. Second: what's wrong with hispanic names?!
Name her Valentina especially if you're having her close to Valentine's Day :)
I love the name.

Valentina has a good ring to it. I'm not not sure if whether or not the origin is Castilian matters, but I think it's actually Italian. Aidan is one of my favorite boys names. If you want an Irish feel you could say Valentina Siobhan (Shavonne). Good luck.

I think it's a lovely name. It's my mother's name, and she is not Hispanic. In fact, I've never heard of anyone Hispanic with that name. It was popular in Russia in the 50s and 60s, and also in Greece and Italy.

I like the name Valentina, and she'd have something to share to her friends that her birthday is near Valentine's Day.
I think it sounds fine with Aiden.
