Flash websites, always make you wait for things to load,
still what is it that makes people choose flash over html sites?

It's done because you can get really fancy-looking effects, and the pages can easily be made more interactive.

The downside is that it takes longer to load, and several platforms (e.g., PDA-phones) can't display them.

Flash looks great. HTML is pretty basic despite being able to create a nice looking website.

To be honest FLASH is a great tool if the site has very little information. If you're doing a site loaded with information then HTML and ease of use is the way to go. If someone has to wait on the flash to view the site, they'll leave.

These are generally two types of people. The people who just want the info want to hit the site, get what they need and move on. http://www.IMDB.com is a basic html style website, but it's loaded with so much information people need the site to be direct and to the point. If you check out the new transformers website it's really awesome in appearance and fun to see at first. It then becomes annoying trying to information from the website and there really isn't that much on it. All Flash and no substance. HTML is all substance.

You can achieve more visually stunning results with Flash than you could with just CSS/HTML. Animated menus, video integration, and the like are all easier with Flash, although the developer trades off some compatibility for those of us who don't use Flash in our browser (Firefox NoScript extension blocks Flash scripts).

because for some reason people think that standards and conventions do not apply.
