I have compaq presario running windowsXP and the hardware found says "HEWLETTPACKARD OFFICEJET REFLASH... i do have a HP printer, but i have not plugged nor unplugged anything. I shut the system down like normal and went to bed. Started it today and got that found hardware thing. I don't know what to think about this. Thanks for all ya'lls help!

I would go to the control panel (in classic view), click on system, click the hardware tab, and click device manager.
This gives a list of all devices attached to your computer. If it is listed under Printers, it will probably appear with an exclamation point. Right click and disable it.

I had a similar experience with my Lexmark printer the cable was not fully connected I corrected the connection and went into control panel printers and deleted the printer I did not require

Disconnect your Printer and un-install all HP drivers and HP software in Add/Remove programs. Reboot your PC.
Then, re-install all HP drivers and software using the disk that came with the printer. Re-boot and re-connect your printer. That should fix it.

XP does auto updates sometimes. This might be what is going on..
