It's common knowledge that women are emotional beings. A woman is more likely to make a decision based on how she feels whereas a man's decision is based on cognition. Also, in regard to problem solving, men focus more on figuring out a solution and women rather talk things out.

How would a woman president deal with other countries that don't respect women? Some countries look at women as the weaker being and believe that a woman's place in life is to be domesticated. Just by this example alone, I believe women will face many challenging obstacles as president. My question is, do you think that women are mentally and emotionally strong enough to run the country?

Currently, this country and it's President isn't respected by a lot of other countries due to the policies we follow. A woman is capable to be the leader of this country, far more capable than Bush. Whether she is mentally, and emotionally strong enough has nothing to do with Gender, it's individual competency. We're one of the few countries in the world that has never had a woman chief executive. Women in political leadership positions are far more common place than ever before. The change of an emerging generation of voters care less about a candidate's gender.

Some men are more emotional than they are logical. It's about the *person*, not the gender of the person. BTW, I was not aware that that was "common knowledge." What I thought was common knowledge is that women are more nurturing than men in general. Nurturing does not equal emotional.

There are many women who are the head of state in other countries. There has never been a question of whether they were to be respected or not. They are respected due to their position and power.

I think that John Edwards is more likely to be an emotional president than Hillary Clinton due to life circumstances. Hillary is a strong woman, WELL able to hold her own amongst men and women alike.

Edited to add this that will help answer to the strength and abilities of a woman vs. a man:

A little boy asked his mother, "Why are you crying?" "Because I'm a woman," she told him.

"I don't understand," he said. His Mom just hugged him and said, "And you never will."

Later the little boy asked his father, "Why does mother seem to cry for no reason?"

"All women cry for no reason," was all his dad could say.

The little boy grew up and became a man, still wondering why women cry.

Finally he asked God. He said, "God, why do women cry so easily?"

God said:

" When I made the woman she had to be special.
I made her shoulders strong enough to carry the weight of the world, yet gentle enough to give comfort.

I gave her an inner strength to endure childbirth and the rejection that many times comes from her children.

I gave her a hardness that allows her to keep going when everyone else gives up, and take care of her family through sickness and fatigue without complaining.

I gave her the sensitivity to love her children under any and all circumstances, even when her child has hurt her very badly.

I gave her strength to carry her husband through his faults and fashioned her from his rib to protect his heart.

I gave her wisdom to know that a good husband never hurts his wife, but sometimes tests her strengths and her resolve to stand beside him unfalteringly.

And finally, I gave her a tear to shed. This is hers exclusively to use whenever it is needed."

"You see my son," said God, "the beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair.

The beauty of a woman must be seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart - the place where love resides."

Generally speaking is not the way to look at it. Women throughout history been sucessful heads of state;

Elizabeth I, Catherine the Great, Margaret Thatcher, Indira Ghandi, Golda Meir. There are currently a bunch.

So certainly a woman could be an effective President , it just depends on the woman.

Any potential female president should be judged on her own merits and not some general theory about how women behave, etc.

So far we've had all men. And, they have made a mess of things. Those countries who don't respect women, need to wake up and be brought into the 21st century. Maybe a strong woman leader from the U.S would help with that. Women are not only mentally and emotionally strong enough to run the country, but they are intellectually and cognitive enough to run the country as well. My god, we have a psychopath and sociopath (Cheney) in office right now. It can't get any worse than him. I won't vote for Hillary but even she would be alot better than what we have now.

Well, most women are also raising kids and tasking care of the home. Women know how to deal with people, as we're naturally more in tune with interacting with other people, because men certainly don't give birth and raise 'em half the time (but that doesn't mean that I don't disregard single guys raising kids). And if you're married, you have to know how to take care of the bills, and every adult knows how taxes work, as you have to pay 'em.

If they don't respect women, give them a woman leader they can respect. And just because men go by cognition and women by feelings, a nice mix would be very helpful.

And as a damn proud Republican, I ain't taking no ketchup lady to have responsibility of where I live dammit. Of course women are strong enough to run a country, I'm not takin no bs from sexist people who think women are weak.

Yes I think a woman would make a great president. Men tend to go off half ****** while women will talk things through. Maybe if that approach had been taken after 9/11, we would not be in this mess. There have been women throughout history that have been proven great leaders.

Yes, no sane person doubt's a woman's intellectual ability, but the ability to control her personal emotions is perceived as questionable; at the same time, however, there have been past male presidents who have been both intellectually inept and emotionally unstable so even a woman's supposed susceptibility to openly expressing her emotions should not be a hinderance to taking care of official business.

Yes. Women are just as capable of being president as men. As for the countries who do not respect women, let them try to disrespect the President of the USA.

Even if that were totally and stereotypically true, (that women are more likely to "feel" their decisions and "talk them out") how does that put one at a disadvantage as President?

In almost all cultures across the globe we are raised to believe that those stereotypical impressions of women are "weak" and "ineffective" when it pertains to politics. But when have they ever had a chance to be employed? I think you diminish the most esteemed of human qualities; empathy and rationality. IF ONLY we had more of that NOW... Do you think we'd still be in this "war", or would this conflict have been resolved already if all parties involved were headed by emotionally driven women who desired to "talk things out" rather than resort to violence?

I know some very strong women who do not respond to situations emotionally. I do not at all think that they are incapable of being a President. Look at Margaret Thatcher, she did a great job and was well respected worldwide.
