Usually I would say not to be too worried if you get a couple of x-rays while pregnant, especially if you are shielded, but for a BE, you are not shielded, the x-rays are directed right at your abdomen, and you get a lot of them. The embryo is also more susceptible to damage the earlier you are in the pregnancy. You may need to get some additional tests or genetic counseling as soon as possible to find out if you are okay.

Good luck.

I haven't had a barium enema xray but I can't see why your doctor would say that would put you at a high risk. I enhauled very toxic fumes when I was 3 weeks pregnant not knowing it. I had the concern and spoke with my doctor about it. She said that there's NO WAY of knowing if stuff like that has an effect on an unborn child till you deliver.. If I was you, personally I would consult with another OBGYN or even your family doctor before taking it to heart and getting extremely overworked over something that might not be anything. Good luck!

I think you need to take this matter seriously. Barium enema examination gives a great deal of radiation dose to you. Unlike chest or skeletal x-ray, the radiation in BE is shot directly to your pelvic area.

I think you need to go to genetic counselling and for your information, there are ways for you to know some chromosomal disorders even during pregnancy.

Finding about Chorionic Villus Sampling and Amniocentesis might help you.

i've got been informed a similar ingredient, yet I declined the x-rays in simple terms to be risk-free. this is as much as you. this is an extremely small volume so it maximum in all probability won't do any harm, yet i did no longer want to hazard it. The dentist would possibly no longer even want to hazard it.

this should ease your mind a bit..there are dangers of radiation to pregnancy, I was in a motorcycle accident when I was pregnant (unknown to me or I would have not been racing!!), and had several x rays taken after the wreck, the baby turned out fine, is a straight a student in vet school now!!
