This is about inequalities. I solved it but I don't know which one is the right answer. The question is:
-8w+4>or equal to12

I got w= -1 but there's two answer options that are similar.

a.) w I w b.) wI w>or equal to -1

I'm thinking that the answer is b (doesn't it have to be opposite?), but I'm not sure. Can you tell me which one is the right answer and why?? Thanks.

-8w + 4 >= 12
-8w >= 8
w <= -1

You need to remember to 'flip' the inequality sign when you divide (or multiply) by a negative number. (Here, you divided by -8 to get your final result.)

-8w + 4 >= 8
-8w >= 8
w <= -1

remember when you multiply or divide an inequality by a negative number the sign changes, so the answer is a

(you can always test points as well, for instance stick in 0 for w you get 4 >= 12 which isn't true so the answers must be less than -1)

-8w+4> 12
-8w>8
dividing by a negative number changes the inequality sign
so w< or equal to -1

I would choose a. Dividing by a negative number changes the sign of the inequality.

If you have trouble remembering this rule, just plug in a number less than / greater than -1 into the original inequality and see what works.

-8w+4>or equal to12
-8w >= 8
w =< -1

-8w >or equal 12
-8w> or equal (12-4)
8w 8w < or equal -8
w < or equal -1
so, w = ]-infiniti, -1 ]
so it's a not b :)

right ?
