The geo metro with a 3 cylinder engine (.7 litre) was availible in the early 90s as a convertible. Mazda made several cars with a rotary engine (which technically has a very small displacement, but not really comparable to piston cars) that may meet the criteria. There are also several asian manufacturers that make small displacement convertibles, Daihatsu etc.

humorous you may desire to ask in regards to the Lexus SC400, I used to possess one (a 1993 model_ and inspite of the reality that the creature comforts have been 2d to none, it particularly wasnt rapid adequate for my speed needs. The engine is controlled via a working laptop or pc, which regulates each and every little thing from ehhaust emissions to RPM limitations, compression ratios and finally speed and horsepower. next motor vehicle substitute right into a 1997 Porsche turboS with 3.4 liter displacement, 440+ horsepower and aboit the comparable torque. The V8 Lexus SC400 max hp 250 at a rpm of 5500, on a similar time as the Porsche's compiter provides you with greater desirable compression, lots greater horsepower at a a great way better RPM and bigger torque ( torque and HP pass hand in hand to furnish you greater speed and accelleration. Cylinder displacement substitute right into a miles better element interior the Muscle autos of the 60's and early 70's, however the main serious element these days interior the pc engine administration gadget. the common pc managenment gadget in a clean or previous due kind automobile has greater computing ability than the computers used in any of the NASA Apollo area missions. there are a number of after industry pc chips that individuals placed into their automobiles (you probable have heard the little hondas and different imports that sound like lawnmowers). usually there are different after industry areas human beings use to make their autos pass rapid (MSD ignition structures, AEM chilly air intakes and real ability pullys, timing belts and pullys, headers, exhaust structures and particularly some different stuff), however the linked fee, high quality, durablilty do no longer come on the brink of a RUF Porsche, a Kompressor Mercedes, ANY Carroll Shelby designed autoany many different respected and famouse rapid automobile designers. I can think of two current production cars - the smart fortwo cabrio and the Daihatsu Copen.

There have been some others in the past, for example:
smart roadster
Suzuki Cappucino
Honda Beat
Fiat Punto convertible (late first-generation models with 1.2 16v engine)
Citroën 2CV
Morris Minor tourer
Rover 111 convertible
Rover Mini convertible (late 1990s version)
Skoda Rapid convertible

Wait till she is a bit older and can be insured on a convertible with a bigger engine size.

Also imo... convertibles are more dangerous... and in the UK... are prone to leaks and stuff. The stealer (dealer) wanted £4500 to get my mate's Audi TT convertible roof repaired from a slight mechanical fault where it wouldn't close.

Smart for 2,Smart sports(not made for last 2 years unfortunatly)..same engine size 600cc turbocharged...Citycar(even smaller than Smart models) olso sold at same dealerships.
But I think the favorite has to be the good old Ford Ka..style icon, easy to maintain, good fuel enconomy, cheap to insure and plenty of after sales add ons and support.

Depends how practical you need it to be. Caterham and Westfield have versions out there with 1.3 engines. Smaller still if you include the bike-engined variants, but they are insanely fast.
