My original first choice is NYU, but i need a composite score of at least a 27. i plan on retaking my ACT in September, and then taking my SAT in october so i can apply early decision by Nov. 1st for NYU. But i think my chances at NYU are pretty slim, because my GPA as of right now is a 2.7, and weighted its a 3.7 but i intend to get both much higher by the end of the year [I was a c student freshman and sophmore year, but i turned around my junior year with all A's and B's and i plan on keeping it up my senior year.]

What other schools should i look at? I live in Florida so i was thinking maybe a state school.

Oh, Im also really involved in my school. I am student government president for the 07-08 school year, i was secratary of our Key Club, President of Science Club, and Head of Prom Committee. I was also a member of jazz band [we got a superior at evaluations and qualified for states], marching band and wind ensemble, But i am not sure if i plan to continue music in college.

I live in Florida too and there are a bunch of great schools but you need to find one that suits you. If you're looking towards state universities there is UF, UCF, USF, FSU, FGCU, UWF, FAU, and FIU (where I go <3). You should think about location (if you wanna live close to home) and also the programs they have. UCF is known for it's engineering program and FIU is known for it's amazing international business program and UF is just plain known for being a great university. See if you're school offers a college tour to the different schools (or organize one yourself so you could see which colleges suit you best). Good Luck :)

Oy!

First, UF is a good school if you like HUGE classes. UF is extremely tough to get into b/c it is cheap relative to many other schools.

Second, "fizzygurl..." - FSU is the Seminoles, not UF. UF is Gators, UF won the Basketball and Football chanpionships last year. I am not a fan, but big mistake.

Third, you have to retake the ACT even for UF. Remember that large State schools are very numbers oriented - if you dont have the number no admission, period.

Fourth, if you retake the ACT, and can improve your score, then you want to look at scholarships as well. That way you can go to a decent undergrad, but have no debt going into law, med, grad school or into the "real" world.

It is possible that if you re-take the ACT and totally rock the SAT, you could get accepted to NYU, as long as you also do an awesome job on your admissions essay, etc.

Just in case, though, you should also check into Florida State University, home of the Gators. They're a great school with less rigid requirements.

Nothing wrong with a state university... : )

You're in luck. It just turns out that UF is a great university.
