We have a Tempurpedic brand and in doing the research before buying it we discovered that the thickness only really matters if you are a very large person or if you will need or want to buy new sheets. My husband is about 250 lbs and we got the thinner mattress, works just fine and we use our regular sheets. If you get and extra deep mattress you will need to have the extra deep sheets.

I bought just a mattress topper for $80 from Penney instead of spending 1500 for a mattress with a bunch of stuff.
