When I was younger, I was one of those "never give in" kinds of people....but that had to change.

Why? Because the thing of it is, we are all only human here. We can only do so much and can only tolerate so much repeated failure. Eventually you do learn Einstein's definition of insanity: You're insane when you do the same thing *over and over and over* again expecting a different result in spite of reality.

So basically, what I'd say is this: If you are still believing that your task can be *done* and over with, if you are still *trying to Do It*, then keep going. But please, for your own sanity and ours, quit while you're ahead if it ever degenerates into *trying to Try it*. At that point you've in some way given up on getting it done, and you are now instead making an effort *just to try to make an effort*. You're chasing your own tail at that point.

And that is the kind of stuff that makes people crazy, as in Norman Bates-in-the-shower crazy. Remember, people can only abuse themselves so much with this frustration and repeated failure business. The sadness can only pile on so deep before it decomposes into bitterness, resentment and eventually a seething hatred.

I've been there, done that and I'm now wearing *out* that t-shirt. ^_^

I hope this helps. Thanks for your time. ^_^

When Trying Stops You.

Never.
Just take the good example of reducing poverty
and reducing war and violence.
When this is done(i exclude the noisy people who dismiss
this example); to a modest degree,of course;Then,such
things as corruption/crime/overpopulation/environmentalism
can be tackled with as much energy and determination.
Some of these things are obviously connected in som
way-poverty and war with overpopulation-and i do not rule
out tackling some at-the-same time.
And we might possibly have to tackle global warming also
at the same time. And i strongly suggest that when we do
this we do it scientifically, broadly and with the inclusion
of the United Nations.
An example may be a reduction in air travel flights, this could
fairly easily be "offset"by a (massive) increase in the more
efficient sea transport(for passengers/and or freight).

So we should not stop trying;trying and succeeding to make
this small world of ours an even better place than it it now.

How long do you keep trying to write with a pen that is out of ink?

I would say stop when you have run out of strategies and contingency plans. When the elevator button continues to fail and you realize the door is simply not going to open take the stairs. Any longer that 3 or 4 months you might consider a behaviour management program, you may be obsessed.
(possessed !)

If you have to try then it's probably is not worth the effort. That is to suggest that the effort put into accomplishing X is often outweighed by what was required in terms of time, energy and cost.

Persistent people can get what they need but usually at a cost to themselves and those around them.

Consider that it was *not* meant to be _right now_. You may have the opportunity to return to it in the future, however, for now, focus on something else.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER STOP TRYING. People who have stopped trying end up, broke, homeless, hungry, dirty, sickly, unkept, disallusioned, and usually die much earlier than what would be normal, for their normal (TRYING) state/ conditions.
The human and animal body parts, must have activity and hope ( trying is the physical efforts of hopes) in order to funtion. Dreams are the non physical efforts!

On one hand,I'm a firm believer that if you want something bad enough, you never stop trying. However, when it's no longer beneficial or positive in any way & you see despite all your efforts that it's going nowhere, then let it go & let what may come, happen. Life is too short to spend all your time & effort beating a dead horse.

when i realize that no matter how hard i try, the end result is going to be the same...but then again i wouldn't know the end result unless i try it..haha..hmm well i guess at some point of life, we come to realize that after failing a numerous time, if it's not meant to be - then we'll keep failing..i personally stop trying when i can't take it anymore...when i feel that i'm at a dead end..

Never--
Each of us has a fire in our hearts for something. It's our goal in life to
find it and to try keep it lit.--

But perhaps we need to try things in a different way if one is not reaching a certain goal.
Example
Suppose I wanted to build my own house but I am unable to no matter how I try. Than perhaps I can gather the funds to have it build. Goal is reached but in a different way. Get the point?

Well I am a firm believer in never giving up. I guess I'd give up if my efforts were causing harm to someone. Or if I realized that another course would be better.
