I’m 9 weeks Prego and have my 1st appointment today. Now, I know you have to have to get lab work. My question is... how do I calm my nerves? I HATE needles with a passion but I know I have to have this done. Please don’t say "welcome to pregnancy" or that Ill be "dealing with needles alot" because I already know that, BUT what I do want to know is how did you calm your nerves down? I’m so nervous right now I think I could be sick. PLEASE only serious answers. Thanks!

I would try to wear a necklace that day......I wear a necklace when I go to the Dr. so that if I feel the need to fidgit, I can reach up and play with the necklace. For some reason, this takes my mind off what is going on. Try to look at posters, walls, decorations, etc. I think most people look to watch watch the lab tech is doing and then it freaks them out to see them messing with the tubes and needles. Take headphones in too, if you can. Maybe the music would be enough of a distraction to help ease you a little.
I hope you get a very good lab tech. With my current pregnancy, I swear I couldn't even feel the needle going in (and I watch them the whole time ;)! )
Best wishes!

sit back, have a cup of sleepy time tea, read a book or take a nap. It's not gonna be that bad. Really. Just let the nurse know that you have an issue with needles. They can use a butterfly needle, which is VERY small and you probably won't even feel it.
Good luck

Let your doctor know about your nerves. Also if you have some kind of relaxation that helps you (music a cuddly) take it with you and use it! My best advice is don't look, tell them how nervous you are and maybe sing or have headphones on so you can't really know when they will stick you. You might find out it's all in your head! (If I remember right I only had blood drawn 3 times and one was optional.)

let me tell you about my experiences with needles. They have a very hard time taking my blood, I have came out looking and feeling like a pin cushion, with this pregnancy I am very lucky that my doctors seem to get my veins one time and it doesn't really seem to hurt much. I just explain to them that I get weak and sometimes sick when they poke me and they try to get someone who is very good at it. Just take someone with you when you know you are getting blood work done, just incase you need them.

If you do some yoga or meditation it might help. I find that doing that helps calm nerves and also deep breathing. Hope you feel better and congratulations. =3

I would find some way to meditate beforehand.
