I've heard the not bathing theory because it's bad for you story and be assured it's an old wives tale. There's all kinds of stories told to scare you from bathing the first few days but I don't believe them to be true. You should bathe to prevent irritation and bad odor. It's just like taking a shower you have to do it to be clean and you'll feel so much better after. My mom would tell me how my grandmother thought it was bad too but she never listened and always encouraged me to shower regularly during my period. I always have and have never had a problem.

:-O Wow at first I thought it was funny but now I see it's deadly serious. He's 14, not a child. Your parents need to be stricter and impose punishments if he doesn't cooperate, because it's unfair that you should undergo this discomfort and humiliation too. Maybe try scaring him with the health risks this poses, by googling pictures of rotted teeth and bad skin conditions. Fact is, as long as he's this young, your parents HAVE the right to MAKE him shower. Clearly his body has reached a point of such bad hygiene that even two days without bathing causes such a stench. They need to act before he's too far down the line. Good luck!

it is perfectly safe bathe during the first two days of menses. Your mother sounds as if she is Orthodox for real. According to certain "rules" that many Orthodox still follow, a woman should not bathe during the first 48 hours of menses. If you did your homework on it, there would be a logical explanation for their belief.
Rest assured, you're safe!!
Best of luck to you!!

Id say you can shower any time
I showered some days of my period every few hours because of the yucky feeling and I am now in the change and NEVER had any troubles from showering during my period.
Id have my mom to call a OBGYN clinic so she can hear for her self that the Dr will tell her IT IS OK......
Dont be mad at mom over it either, some of the old wifes tales are way out dated and good luck

That's what my mom used to say too, but doctors don't support that idea. The only thing that could happen to some women when bathing/showering with cold or very cold water during their periods is a possible abdominal pain. That's why many people prefer to take warm showers only during their period. That's it...

You can bathe whenever you want. It certainly won't cause infertility or anything like that.
Just do what feels most comfortable. Some women prefer to take shower during their period, other feel baths are more relaxing. They can also help with period pain.

You should definitely bathe or shower. It will make you be and feel cleaner and fresher and can help with any cramping you may have as well. Being in water temporarily stops the blood flow so you will not have large amounts of blood flowing into your bath water (it will start again as soon as you come out though). There is no danger.

There's no reason you shouldn't bath, that's an old hoary tale, to be put in the same category as "if you touch cream it will turn sour".
As for water being colder, that would mean that in a cold climate just going outside would make all women sterile as your body temperature dropped a little.

Old wives tale. A shower seems cleaner but the water in a tub stops the flow for a bit. Best time I can think of to bathe if you want that "clean and fresh" feeling.
