I'm confused, when the U.S. counts the population of Hispanics do they count ALL Hispanics and Latinos, because anyone can be Hispanic(Hispanic simply means Spanish speaking and Latino refers to a person from Latin America) or do they just count the Mestizo's. I guess i'm trying to ask do they count the Black Hispanics or Asian Hispanics also.

Theyre counting anyone who says theyre hispanic whether theyre black hispanic or white.
But in all reality, the largest number of hispanic is mexican, due to them invading America and coming here and breeding like rabbits. Lets not forget the millions who arent even accounted for due to them being illegal.
So when a hispanic or latin person gets excited that they are no longer a minority, think again because its mexicans who are the majority, unfortunately.

when the Spaniards came to the Americas they chose to name them Latinos. it gives to the assumption that all that speaks a roman language is a Latino, but this is not the case. then they called the Spanish people in the Caribbean Hispanics (from la Hispaniola). i used both terms, for that doesn't bother me. we don't discriminate in basis of color but ethnicity. if you are a black puertorican you are a Hispanic, if you come from Mexico, you are a Latino. and of course the u.s courts have to count all Latinos or Hispanic as one. Asians and other races are not Latinos even if they were born in America or the Caribbean.

Yes....when counting Latino/Hispanic people, black and Asian Latinos are counted as well

If you have ever taken a survey it asks (and some other applications too) Hispanic (black or white)

Just remember that black Hispanics are Hispanic as well as Asian ones...

Chuckle, that is a question that will get you a large number of answers. According to the state of Texas you are only Hispanic if you have a Hispanic surname. Therefore my youngest son, adopted, has an Anglo surname & isn't considered hispanic by the school system. Some consider him anglo & some consider him Hispanic. Basically he has been raised in the anglo culture & I have not been successful at teaching him Spanish. I just consider the boy a wonderful human that is the light of my life.

I believe "hispanic" is used to identify those with Latin culture, and in some instances latin citizenhip. Not that this is correct, it's just how it is. "We" as the so called majority do not segregate out the differing "hispanic" cultures, sort of like the "they all look the same to me attitude". Again not necessarily correct, but reality none the less. I personally look forward to a day when people are just people and thier skin color and cultural heritage are not an issue.

On many government forms that I see, there are Hispanic White and Hispanic Non-white.

I think also it depends on what agency you are talking about.

I think the government is not counting Black Hispanics such as some Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Belizians, Black Peruvians and other African Hispanics.
