Ichiro has the uncanny ability to hit and pull the ball to and through spaces in the infield.
Have you ever heard of the term "Hit them were they ain't"? That's what he does.
In addition to that he is very fast down the first base line.

He put the ball in play and gets on base, which is what a leadoff man is supposed to do. Also, he hits a lot more hard line drives than weak grounders that get through the infield. He does have some power, but hitting homeruns isn't his role on the team. His first year in Seattle, in spring training, the manager was getting really pissed at him because he just kept hitting those slap singles to left field. So the manager asked him (thru a translator obviously) if he could pull the ball hard to right field. The next pitche he saw he jacked into right center for a homerun. Ichiro came back into the dugout and asked if he was happy with that hit and was never questioned about his hitting style again. Ichiro is one of the greatest hitters of all-time. If he'd played his entire career here in the states, he'd make a bid for the all-time hits record before he retired.

Dear Sir,
You may want to look up the definition of fluke, as you are using the word in an incorrect manner. But, to answer your question of Ichiro's weak ground balls making it through the infield line of defense, Ichiro is very quick down the line and the infielders must cheat a little forward of where they would normally play so that they have time to throw him out after they field the grounder. Thus, if the ball is not hit directly at the infielder, the infielder will not have time to react to balls hit in the holes, allowing Ichiro an easier opportunity to hit balls through the infield and into the outfield.
your superior,
Nacnud

First off id like to give a shoutout to "mynameashand", who posted earlier saying ichiro and jose reyes are 2 best leadoff hitters in the game, finally some1 else realizes the greatness that is jose reyes, a baseball god"
onto ichiro, he is so lightning quick and intelligent that he realizes all he needs to do is put the bat and the ball and run like hell!!! he does this exceptionally well and this is why he has so much success
P.S. Ichiro averages only 40 infield hits a year, so the other 180 or so hits make it to the outfield and he usually gets around 40 extra base hits, so he can hit for some pop, start watching baseball and learn what ur talking about!!!

First of Ichiro is one of the best players in baseball. one of the top 2 lead off hitters (him and Reyes). Also his balls get out of the infield because he can aim. he puts the ball in a sport where it has the potential to leave the infield. This shows that he is better than most for he has control of the ball after it leave the bat. And he does have homerun power but he chooses not to hit them for it is not his role on the team.
Edit-Notice how everyone who said ichiro is good has gotten a thumbs up?

Obviously, he's not a fluke if he has all those hits. Maybe he just knows where and how to position the ball so that infielders can't get to it. I don't think he's a fluke.

because thats what a leadoff man does, get on base. who cares if he doesnt have power and all his hits are grounders into the infield, thats all he has to do. get on base and try to steal a base. yea, ichiro sucks, thats why hes been to so many allstar games.

He's been in the league for 7 years now. He is arguably the best pure hitter the game has ever seen. If he had started his career in the majors I don't think it's out of the question for him to have possible gotten 5,000 hits. He will still probably get 3,000.

Ichiro is no fluke. He's got great bat control and gets hits and lots of 'em. He can hit for power too. He's one of the game's best lead-off batters.
