I have to agree with you, I couldn't believe that we wasn't allowed flags and stuff at Wimbledon this year.

It's an interesting point, but your examples are rubbish I'm afraid.
Santa Claus is a Dutch American invention to begin with [1]. The trend towards replacing 'Christmas' with 'Holiday' is because of the secular nature of US government [2]. Other claims in right wing newspapers are nonsense [3]
Most of the 'banned flags' such as [4] are down to officials over-zealously applying H&S or Planning laws - not some UnionJackophobia.
Regarding your first part of the question, I'd say that we need to define Englishness/British and then promote it. Off the top of my head:
- English Language.
- liberal (small l) thinking - a tradition dating back to the Age of Enlightenment. [5]
- Industrial/Inventive Tradition
- Celebration of past achievements - tricky one this to avoid propaganda
- Maybe other 'core values' such as education, universal sufferage/equality, rule of law throughout the country applied to all.

For a start, get truthful politicians who give us the facts without flannel. Ditch political correctness it gets in the way of the truth. Teach the positive side of the Empire, it was not all bad. teach properly about the Magna Carter. Yes we were successful slave traders but have done more than any other Country to suppress it. The ne'er do well characters will always concentrate on the negative side and we have tolerated them far to long in our educational establishments and part of the media.Do not forget that the peoples of these islands have more in common to celebrate together than they ever have to spit in one anothers faces

Isn't patriotism the last refuge of a scoundrel...
http://www.quotationspage.com/quote/27329.html
The problem is that we are a diverse country (whether you agree with that as an aim or not) and whatever our government decides there will be a sizable group who disagree and feel that "it's not British". When you have an homogeneous society it's easier to be patriotic. For patriotism to exist you need social cohesion. This is more difficult when there is increasing economic, social, political, ethnic, educational, etc. diversity. This is possibly why Gordon Brown asked what it means to be British. Unfortunately, with a fractured society you will not get a coherent answer.
Then again, do we want diversity (which can be interesting and which presents diverse solutions to a range of problems) or do we want to be the same (agree, share the same interest and work with fewer tensions)?

Sorry that died the death back in the good old days of the 1960's. Unfortunately the "children of the sixties" are now the one's running the place and their creed is now being imposed on the rest of our society. Their belief of total anarchy against the establishment of those days and everything it stood for have brought about the situation we find ourselves in today.
PS I note we have to have a non-smoker putting his penn'orth in. YES we know about the ban - stop crowing!!

So - plan of campaign?
1. Stop playing head bangers/look at me trying to be Alpha male music from open cars - bring on "Land of Hope & Glory" maximum volumn
2. All wear red roses in our labels on 23rd April next
3. Union Flags (or of St.George) to be flown from every house - particularly on St.George's Day (OK so he wasn't a Brit, but we've given him honorary status)
4. Press for 23rd April to be a Public Holiday (not the nearest Monday to the date which makes it pointless like the May Day Bank Holiday)
More suggestions, please. Let's keep the ball rolling

Who stopped you putting a Union Jack up? I understand this is sensationalized tabloid journalism that becomes urban legend. I have never heard of anybody being arrested for flying their flag (except for maybe nazis)...
Celebrate your culture, go and order a curry...

Unfortunately the world dislikes us for reasons which we must continually apologise for even though we personally are not responsible - it's those who let us down. I'm afraid to say that I am not proud to be British, we have had our morals and our respect taken away from us by our government and we are the laughing stock of Europe.

Stop other cultures overriding our own due to bloody political correctness.
This is Britain!!! We should not have women dressed in Burkhas which has nothing to do with religion but is a tribal custom of oppression.
We should not have people of any creed (BNP, Mullahs, etc) inciting hatred on our streets.
We should instead look back to a time when Britain was great and celebrate that.

I think it's good enough.
I don't like how the Americans overdo it and masturbate their flag every morning. Because of their self-righteousness America is probably one of the most hated countries in the world.
That's where we're heading if we become too self-involved.
