Why can't the left just accept that we live in a market economy? If there was a market for liberal radio you can bet corporate America would have it on the air. In fact they tried Air America and it failed. So now there are people pushing for the government to interfere. Besides, they have NPR, and no one listens.

it is often unhappy whilst human beings have self belief their very own propaganda. enable's deconstruct. First 'the 'liberals'. the splendid wing redefined the notice right into a pejoritive noun. There ain't no this sort of critter. the whole argument is their version of Emmanual Goldstein. you would be able to look that up. next! interior the 50 years that the fairness Doctrine became into in effect no longer a unmarried station lost it is license because of the fact of 'controversy', nor did any of them lose a unmarried dime of gross sales. previously the Reagan era, communicate radio became right into a large open field the place all factors of view have been reported all interior the comparable hour on the comparable application. communicate radio thrived. 'fairness' looked as though it might artwork. previously the Reagan era there have been plenty extra self reliant stations. Now extensive 'reactionary conglomerates' hog many of the commonplace public airlines. via layout they block out all factors of view different than the main impressive wing. The canard that there is unquestionably a 'legacy' media flies interior the face of actuality. the comparable conglomerates very own just about each and every thing able to putting out a sign. and it is often their notice against no notice! ABC, NBC and CBS night information is strictly a million/2 hour of which a scant 14 minutes is dedicated to information...something is fluff, lead ins, previews and labeled classified ads. 'Liberal media' my @ss! Air u . s . of america is unquestionably doing all right on the few stations it is allowed to be on, opposite to the propaganda you will desire to have heard. The declare that no-one desires to hearken to that 'stuff' is entire BS. human beings do, or are a minimum of prepared to hearken to. it is long previous time to convey returned the fairness Doctrine....the call itself says all of it...fairness! Is everyone for un-fairness? Duh!

Oi vey. For the billionth time, Air America is still very much on the air, as are other shows not affiliated with Air America. Sheesh.
For the record, I find the Fairness Doctrine lame.

People whose ideas don't survive in the marketplace because nobody cares to hear them.

If conservative talk radio didn't have a market, it wouldn't have been so successful.

The "Fairness Doctrine" is to speech what the CAFE standards is to vehicles. Government restriction on what it doesn't like, and the forced acceptance of what isn't wanted.

The airwaves belong to the public. The government licenses the airwaves to companies. The government can and does have influence over content, and the Fairness doctrine (which attempts to prevent broadcasters from favoring one candidate over another in their programming) is one of the policies in effect.

As long as the public airwaves are in use, then the government has a right to insure fairness. Be that as it may, the fairnes doctrine really only apples to political campaigns. There is no law or policy that FOX or Rush or Coulter actually be fair and balanced.

True, all true. I suppose they just can't accept the fact that they aren't popular, and the market has determined that. Furthermore, they can't accept that the market works exactly as they say it doesn't, so they're trying to cover up their mistakes by blustering and forcing it to do even more of what it shouldn't. It's almost funny, really, to watch advocates of the Fairness Doctrine freak out about fairness and bias and what have you when they're victims of what one might call the fairest game of all.

What we have here is the right's latest straw man - that being the fairness doctrine boogeyman. If you look at the actual market figures guys like Ed Schultz - who has come out against the idea - is beating guys like Sean Hannity in some markets. And if you look on talkers magazine, Schultz is rated above others like Bill, Neal, and Glenn Beck.

I agree with you. Whoever gets the listeners gets the airtime.

However, the ONLY way I would EVER be in favor of the fairness doctrine would be if it applied to ALL media across the board (television networks and cable, newspapers, magazine, and the internet).
