Last year, in Tenessee,(6th grade) when people were signing other people's yearbooks, I asked this girl from science class I had a crush on (but trust me, no one would even imagine me having a crush on her) to sign mine. Instead on the ordinary things, suprisingly, she wrote this:
"It has been real.
It has been great.
But it hasn't been real great."
During that summer I moved to NY and just graduated from 7th grade and still can't understand it.

Can I just say to a lot of you that answered that were not friends, we barely spoke a few etimes during the year in group assigments, and when she needed help with something, since I am practically a mastermind. And she didn't write that to everyone, just me.(I know because the whole school knew me, I coming from spain and speaking 4 languages and braille, even thought she was almost as high as me in the "social pyramid."

I think she was just saying that she knew you liked her but you should have said something . Live is short and if you don't take the chance you miss out on a lot of things . I have had my heart broke allot but it made me a better man for the one i am with now took along time to find the one I will spend the rest of my life with but every heart break was worth it . I am a better person having known all the girls and women in my life . I still wish I had said hello to others girls and ladies but I didn't . So next time take the chance and say hello you may get a hello or you may get shot down but at least you don't have to wonder what if .

In my opinion, this is just one of those silly phrases that people write in yearbooks--it really has no deep, philosophical meaning. People used to say "it's been real" a lot back in the 70's--it really didn't mean anything profound. "It's been real", as in, "it's been a real experience" or "it's been real" rather than "it's been nothing". And "it's been great" means whatever anyone wants it to mean--"great" is another one of those overused words that has lost meaning due to being used so much--"it's been great" rather than "it was awful" or "it's been great" as just a nice thing to say to someone, with no deep, hidden meaning. The last line is just one of those "clever" lines that ties the first two lines together. I wouldn't lose any sleep over this--I don't think it has any deep, profound meaning at all!

Like a lot of poems , quotes, etc, it doesn`t have to be cerebral. Lots of stuff like this is just a play on words, it can be amusing and enteraining but doesn`t have to have any deep or significant meaning. It`s like, I tell you that a man jumped off of the empire state and then I ask you where he was when he jumped. Most people would answer " He was on the Empire State " - but - I say " No, that was BEFORE he jumped, where was he WHEN he jumped ". Then they amswer " he was in the air ". I answer " no, that was AFTER he jumped, where was he WHEN he jumped "?. See what I mean ?, word play.

I've heard this a lot and I think in your situation it is not as generic as saying "Have a Nice Summer" so instead something a little more unique. I think the person writing it probably didn't put much thought into!
Why don't you just ask her!!

Honestly, she was in the sixth grade. It probably didn't mean anything other than she wanted her signature to be different from everyone else's. You're reading way too in to it. Just forget about it. For all you know she signed everyone's yearbook that way.

Sounds like, It has been real; Pleasure to know you, Its has been great; Pleasure to talk to you, It hasnt been that great; means it would have been even greater if you were my boyfriend. See sometimes you dont really look into expressing yourself real good. She only in 6th grade then. READ in between the lines. She likes you.

It means exactly what it says...Don't read to much into it
The year had been real
The year had been great
But, the year hadn't been really great
It's not an insult to you it's against the school year...she thought the year was better with you there...

it sounds like the times she had were real and great but they could have been better if someone was there. Sounds to me like she likes you. someone wrote something like that in my yearbook too.
