If you mean the "most powerful", "the do anything" machine then you can look at this spec and will never go wrong with anything

For MS Windows? Get the one with the fastest CPU and a boat load of memory (that would be desktop). All the rest is frills. Laptop technology is always a step behind desktop technology.
For Mac's, I'd say the Mac Pro Workstation.
