I have a very small kitchen and I'm trying to save all the space I can. I need a compact (18"W) over the range microwave to fit this only spot available for the microwave, but a small over the range microwave oven doesn't seem to be available. Is it ok to have a regular microwave (no ventilation) over an electrical stove? Is it really dangerous? What are the risks? What could happen? Thanks!

I wouldn't do it, either. The plastic on the bottom of a regular microwave most likely won't hold up to the heat. Plus, when you remove the stove hood, you lose your light and exhaust fan since a regular microwave won't have one in the bottom of it.

PLUS, most of the time a microwave is longer (top to bottom) than your range hood and once you get the microwave installed, you will have less space between the bottom of the microwave and the top of the stove than you did with just the range hood. You won't be able to get a stock pot on the stove.

If you have cabinets above your stove, remove the doors and the center support between the two doors and slide the microwave in there. You can drill a hole in the bottom of the cabinet to run the electrical cord out of, or call an electrician. This way it's up off of the counter and you don't lose your range hood.

Simply too dangerous! if you use your stove on a regular basis and not knowing exactly what kind of clearance inches available between the two appliances. Today's small microwave construction material cannot sustain much heat and you need to make sure there is room around and good ventilation.

I would not do it. You need an air vent to remove the heat from the stovetop and, more importantly, the oven. When I had an over the stove microwave, I needed to turn on the vent fan when I used the oven to prevent messing up the microwave.

yeah its dangerous what if the stove was hot after you where done cooking. what if the stove was on. there is no telling of what could happen but you know it won't be good!!! so i wouldn't do that. you are somehow going to have to create space. maybe get a microwave cart to leave on the floor or something. my aunt has a very nice cherry oak microwave cart with wheels. Well thats what I would do. BEST OF LUCK!!

I think that you have to have a microwave that is made for going over the stove because of the ventilation problems. I have one, it is a lot bigger than 18''W.

My daughters new home has a microwave over the stove, it has lights and a vent system--without this I would not do it.

Just have to be careful about the heat from the range top. Odds are you are going to scorch or damage the microwave via the burners.

i wouldn't do it
