My eleven month old will not stop sucking her thumb. It's starting to get red and dry from her constantly sucking on it. What have you tried to get them to stop? I don't want to put anything on it that will hurt, since her thumb is really irritated.... Thanks!

thumb sucking is for security..any tries to stop it threaten her security..if this a big bother to you try nursing her more, or holding her while giving her a bottle..also try distraction, games, toys, reading..and when you see her suck her thumb tell her you understand she is sleepy and take her to her bed.every time!
Do not stress on this, she needs the safety of her thumb sucking to make her feel secure! Babies need a certain amount of sucking, and if they do not get it from nursing, the will find a substitute..

My daughter sucked her thumb until she was three..she just outgrew it..and her "sucked" thumb always looked red...unless the doctor says there's a problem..she probably still needs that comfort..but by the time she's 2-3 it can effect thier speech..so it's at that age I started trying to get mine to stop...good luck

Anything that is constantly wet will be chaffed....i.e., your baby's thumb.

Honestly, there's nothing you can do to get her to stop sucking her thumb. If its not obviously hurting her, then its probably nothing more than chaffing skin.
