Well there are many different subspcecies of lion but they're only difference is location.Take for example the Panthera Leo persica or tha Asiatic lion of course it is located in Asia and there are currently only about 350
There is also the panthera leo senegalensis or the senegal lion in West Africa
There are also some extinct subspecies
like panthera leo melanochaita or the cape lion that became extinct around 1860

There are also some prehistoric lions;
Panthera leo atrox , the north american cave lion which lived about 35, 000 to 10,000 years ago

Well in general there are many species fo big cats but others such as the mountain lion are not with the panthera leo but with a different species altogether

Probably just Felix leo. Lions used to have a very wide area of habitation in ancient history, even into Europe (they do well in temperate climates despite their "jungle" connotation). Other cats, such as "mountain lions" are of a different species.

Presently only two,
one is the African lion and second is the Asian lion
