A rewritable cd, or RW, is one that you can rewrite. You can delete files. You can replace files. This is usually for backing up data or putting files on disc for a printer or a friend.

A writable cd, or R, is one that you cannot rewrite. Once files are on disc, you cannot replace them, or delete them. This is for making copies of music. For some reason cd players can only read music on R discs.

So use R for your music. Use RW for your computer files.

Well the R cd can only be written once and RW is rewritable so you can delete the data or whatever you have on the disc and write new stuff on it.

I agree to all the authenticated answers above. No issues. But practically u wont be able to write the CD more than 80 times Also within 30-40 writes the CD surface gets a bit dull and hazy with time.Whichever quality it is. That's bcoz of the Writer Head Some time coming too near. Also make sure u clean the Lens with the Lens Cleaner. But still i would tell u after 40-50 writes ull start getting some read error's but no write errors The error specifically would be Cyclic Redunduncy Error This is a practical view. Regards

RW are rewritable and R's are writable only one time.

To make use of an RW, you need software which will allow you you to write and remove info from the CD.

An R disk can only be written once.

A RW can be written, and then re-written many times. Think of it as a 700 MB floppy disk.

rewritable cds can have files burned onto them, you can listen to them, use them etc.. then you can add more files over top of those files, you can use them more than once... "reusable" i guess is the right word. non-rewritable cds, or regular cds, can only have files burned onto them once.
